Hello All,

I am new to CD and have read some of the previous threads looking for all the info I need on what to expect but with my unique situation I have decided my own post laying all my cards on the table might be best. We are a young family of 4 currently living in Florida after relocating from up north and dislike it here so much we have decided to take our savings and move to VA (Yes, We have visited numerous times)! The job market, lack of culture, and weather is just to much so we have secured a rental in the west end, a moving truck, and we will be on our way! Now, my dilemma is I have not booked solid employment just yet. Yes I know that sounds crazy! But, I am a bit of a risk taker and of course have savings to secure us for awhile. I have applied for many jobs and have gotten responses as to come in for an interview, etc. We also have no family or friends in the area BTW. So, what I'm looking for is your general opinion on what I should expect? From the Job Market (Which seems very nice compared to FL), the culture, the west end (From what we researched seemed like a nice fit for our family), public schools in henrico county, etc. Well, the move is set and there is NO turning back now now but I definitely could use local info! Thanks for your time!

as far as the job market, it is much better here than in most places but it will depend on the industry. there are a lot of jobs in finance, legal, and government.

All I have to say is good for you! I have done the same thing myself on a couple of occasions, sometimes it went well and sometimes it didn't. However, when it worked it was great! Virginia, in my opinion, is a good option for a family for the culture and the job market.

This x1,000,000. The amount of ****ty driving I see everyday baffles me. It never used to be like this. On the other hand... I hope you're packing, because downtown Richmond has been overran by thugs the past week or two.

Coming from Florida I deal with horrible drivers daily. This is the tourist capitol! And on the other hand living in one of the most armed states in the country, You better believe I'm a legally armed citizen!

And as for "Thugs" running the city, I havent heard anything of that? And to be honest I'm not so worried either! We choose Richmond because of the Job market, COL, & Historic culture! I think transplants can only help the city honestly. From what I've read about the 80s-90s era of Richmond it looks like night and day! Atleast VA has not become NC, FL, TX, or NYC! I myself plan on getting into Richmond PD soon so I will do my best to clean up the city! ; )
