Hi-

I'm thinking about moving to Bowling Green.
I'm currently in Durham, North Carolina .... but I'm not feeling it.
(Durham's motto is: "The City of Science" and I'm more of a friendly arts type person.)

I'm also a 60 year old retired veteran who wants to spend time growing stuff... raising chickens, dogs and maybe some turkeys and a few goats. If the goats live, I might even try a few sheep!

So.... that means I plan to spend a lot of time alone. (I write.)
BUT... when I get too lonely, I want to drive to a city with some good coffee and hopefully some good conversation. And Bowling Green is close enough for a trip into DC when I need get a real urban hit.

Can you tell me candid thoughts ... from all over the emotional map ... about opinions, good and bad experiences with the area?

Bowling Green is a nice little community, a lot of retired vets. Its about 45 minutes north of Richmond and 20-30minutes south of Fredericksburg, VA. Its pretty quiet. Fredericksburg would be your closest "city" that has a nice historic downtown area to get coffee and good conversations. Richmond would be your first "urban" city. DC would be a day trip but a hike, if no traffic probably about 90-110 minutes each way. If there is traffic (which there usually is) it might take you 3 hours each way.

You mention that you write. Fredericksburg has a lot of artsy sides to it with several literature reading places downtown so that might be all you need.

Good luck
