Dear City-data friends we all know its been a little while since we have had weekends as nice as this one (at least the first part of the weekend!). To all of us that may have forgotten all the great outdoor things to do when we have such nice weather refresh our memory!! Leave a reply telling us what you like to do or what events are going on in an outdoor setting in Roanoke so we can all enjoy it for what its worth! Since we are rolling into May soon it would be cool if people left suggestions on here each week!! Any suggestions will do!! Have a good one!

I will start by suggesting music on the market in downtown Roanoke every Sat. this spring! I believe the music starts are 11am or so. Be sure to stop by the Ukrop's table and sample something good to eat!! (Last week it was chocolate fudge pie! not sure about this week.) If you go let me know how it was... I remember going last year and really enjoyed it.

We love to visit Mill Mountain Zoo. My daughter is performing in an environmentally themed skit at the zoo with her North Cross "destination imagination" team at noon today So stop by if you have the time. Also, we really enjoy the Mill Mountain trail system.

We've been biking the Greenways more often lately. Someday, the Roanoke River Greenway will run from Montgomery County all the way to Smith Mountain Lake. How cool is that?

Sean

I've been playing in my yard and garden.

If any of my city-data friends would like some strawberry plants, I have LOTS that I want to get rid of!!

(why didn't I think of posting them here earlier?! It's getting kind of late, so you'd need to get them soon).

Any one know what the deal is with downtown movies in the park or anything? I thought I saw a flyer stating that somewhere.

Just thought of another one, though not quite Roanoke, how are the Salem Sox games?

We love going to the games! The tickets are cheap enough so that if our youngest gets cranky, we can leave early without feeling that we threw a bunch of money at something.

I highly recommend going. Tickets are cheap, but concessions can get pricey. We snack at home and try not to let our kids talk us into anything

Default lake activities

Don't forget to check out Smith Mountain Lake this summer. This weekend offers a bunch for families at the ESPN Outdoors/BASSMASTER tournament. Free for all and tons of stuff to check out. Runs from 2-5 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Event will be at Parkway Marina (just down the road from the State Park) - a nice leisurely drive from Roanoke.

What a great idea for a thread, especially since we are new here (Botetourt) it's cool to see what is going on! I know this weekend in Buchanan is the Civil War weekend. History or Travel Channel is going to be there filming. We have a baseball game there on Saturday so we'll check it out after but it does run all weekend.

Bumping this thread for May...

Next weekend (May 15-17) ... two great events are going on: one is Local Colors which most of you guys probably know about already --- I haven't been to it yet but I know some of the people involved so I am looking forward to it. It's from 11-5 Saturday. The other event is the Mutt Strut at Wasena Park --- this is a fundraiser for Carilion Hospice and I'll be at this one for the duration, 9-2, before heading over to Local Colors. (Any of you guys who come to the Mutt Strut should pm me so I can let you know how to recognize me there.)

The following weekend is Memorial Day, and the Festival in the Park!
