I remember High Falls was a pretty good entertainment area, but the private business owners in the East End didn't like their tax dollars used to compete with them. (understandable). I remember when there was a free shuttle around downtown during evening hours.

The city really has to get it's act together regarding crime and jobs. Everything else takes care of itself after that.

I think that High Falls had their share of crime, however, which didn't help their cause. My wife and I, both by ourselves, as well as with some friends, visited the 'Triphammer Grill' on several occasions. And on a couple of those trips, as we were leaving the restaurant, heading for our car(s), we were "buzzed" by a couple of "thugs" on bicycles, looking to snag the women's purses....not good for the businesses there.

Another huge bust.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/real...697b64398&ei=7

53 houses costing $509,434 each. Most likely be sold for about $90,000.

Once again, subsidizing housing with taxpayer money, when these people would have been better served to have a job, or a better job, and feel good about paying full price. Failing parents, failing schools and failing city administration. Craddle to grave living a subsidized life. When will people learn?

It appears that just isn't going to happen. Too many people are perfectly happy to live like that, and in the interest of "keeping the votes", a large portion of the government is happy to continue this lifestyle. The annoying part is that these houses cost so much.....A HALF MILLION DOLLARS, EACH!........ AND NOBODY QUESTIONS THIS????

Plus, I'm assuming the city already owns the lots, so there's another $15,000 each. Amazing what you can do with other peoples money. No accountability, either.

It's a shame. I wonder when people are going to figure out that they have been useful idiots, as Stalin called them.

Do you really think that is the only form of subsidies?

Also, the people that live in the homes are likely taxpayers themselves, even if they don’t make a lot money.

What about the past practices/policies that led to this even being a thing?

This isn’t even considering that voter turnout is pretty low for many elections. So, are the people that live in said dwellings even voting, even if they have the time to? That’s regardless of their affiliation, if affiliated at all.

You always make the point that they pay taxes. Yes, sales tax only, which would be what, $200 per year for a family? Food isn't taxed. Clothing is only 4%. Any income tax would be refunded, and maybe get a NET tax return with the earned income tax credit. So, when you do the math, they really don't pay taxes. But they get a lot of benefits.
