I'm not to fond of the casino idea other than the jobs it will create, but I was wondering if they would need any ones approval to put a casino on a riverboat?
There's a thought!! Maybe they could find out what happened to the "fast ferry" that was here 15-20 years ago, and bring it back as a "riverboat casino"..........maybe it would work out, this time around!!
On a serious note, I read in today's (Saturday, 6/17/23) D&C, that the Senecas have either already purchased, or are in negotiations to purchase, a piece of land in Henrietta, near the Regional Public Market. Their plan for the land was a casino/hotel/retail complex.
And on an even more serious note, this "deep secret plan" for the casino, courtesy of the "Governor", or has it morphed into "dictator", should give everyone pause. This is the second major, "after dark" deal that the Democrats have foisted, or tried to foist, on the state's residents. The first one (that we know of) being the SAFE act....you all remember that one, don't you. It was claimed to reduce gun violence by severely trampling on the rights of law abiding residents to own a firearm (sportsmen), while basically ignoring the criminal's activity. (how well did THAT work out??)

In other words, be careful of what you vote for!!
As I understand, the Senaca's DID purchase land on Clay rd about 10 years ago.
There already is a boat in the Genessee (paddleboat), that gives rides. Seems they have had "casino nite" in the past.
As for the Fast Ferry, it was a shame politics is what destroyed it. Bill Nojay (R) head of RTS at the time, and Louise Slaughter (D). The ferry was purchased and brought here curtesy of a former private citizen, but got no support from the politicians.

I may be wrong, but from what I recall, wasn't the ferry also not fully supported in Canada? I heard that they barely had any kind of terminal there, especially one that would accommodate the loading/unloading of cars and trucks, which was supposedly of the "sales points" of the ferry, to begin with.

You are correct. It wasn't marketed well to Toronto. They did have a car/ truck terminal there, which wasn't directly downtown, but the way Toronto is growing, probably is now.
I saw the ferry different from most people who thought it was just a ship. I saw it as a "connection", and believe that many of the colleges and universities, and businesses, such as optics, could establish roots here, and take advantage of our lower COL. We could have had the US headquarters of dozens of Canadian companies here by now, maybe 1000 more optics (or other) jobs, far offsetting the meir $5 million annual loss it was experiencing at the end. Actually, scheduling only one trip a day would have wiped that out.

Not to mention, the COOLNESS factor. In many was. Especially in marketing the region. Especially to kids that come here for college, and that's the deciding factor to stay. Imagine, we could go to Toronto for lunch, and come back later, the same day, and we threw it all away.
I thought that this press release by the Senecas was interesting in terms of who may have dropped the ball in regards to communication to local officials about the idea.

This "governor" does not care one bit, what her constituents want. Everything is You WILL follow my rules. She almost lost the election. You would think she would understand why. I guess not. Force everything through as fast as you can, because next election, you're done.
