Are there realtors, companies, or agents that specialize and advise in finding the right town? I would like to move from a suburb to a smaller town. I have a few areas and states in mind, but could probably use a specialist since there are so many options and so many different places I would have to visit. Do such people exist that you can hire to help you narrow the choices out of all of the potential options we have nationwide?

Yes, but No.
I would think first you need to have a ballpark of where you want to go, at least a short list of places.
Then reach out to the local realtors for those particular areas.

I think the window of opportunity to move to Idaho (at an affordable price) is closing, if not already closed.

Why is that?

When we moved to Nebraska from Illinois a year ago we knew we wanted to come to a general area. We had a friend here who hooked us up with a realtor, and then she took her iphone and did some walk-throughs for us to see them. I also joined a few of the local buy/sell groups on FaceBook and that helped us find the house we wanted, and she went and checked it out.

If you don't know the town you want to go to, start researching online. You'd be amazed how much you can find out online. Most towns have a local chamber of commerce web site, and you can find maps of the area, and satellite images on Google. Reach out to a realtor in your area that works for a national company and ask if they can help.

Then, get ready to drive and look at places.

Read this link. https://www.moneycrashers.com/where-...e-best-places/

This link and a few others like it are as good as it’s going to get, in answer to your question.

You are going to have to do the general narrowing down yourself. Once you find an area of interest, then contact real estate agents in that general area.

For example, Tennessee is comprised of three very diverse sections called West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and East Tennessee. Each of these sections of the state have very different things to offer in terms of landscape to slightly varying degrees of climate.

In this day and age one of the top items on your list needs to be availability of medical care and close proximity to big hospitals if you need surgeries for serious issues like heart stents, prostate or other cancer surgery, etc.

You can also go to the section of City Data where all of the individual states are listed and ask questions there. I know Of several Tennessee folks who bend over backward to help people, so I’m sure the other states offer clear and helpful advice as well

I hate to say this but, if you can’t make the initial generalized “where to move to” decision yourself, you are better off staying right where you are and know where everything is

Since this "situation" started in March, there has been a movement to suburb/rural areas from large cities...no surprise there. I live in a rural area of upstate NY..about 4 hours NW of NYC. I am beyond the 2-3 hour window from the city that most of these folks are looking for. I do, however, know contractors/realtors in the Catskills to my east(within their desired area). Wether its for a weekend retreat, full time home, or a bugout location(which they would never admit to), the real estate market over that way has been BUSY. I find it a bit hard to believe there have been bidding wars on properties that some have only seen in video tours and online descriptions...
