Are there any jobs in Sacramento? I work in IT, but nowadays am open to trying anything. I currently live in the greater LA area, but cannot find any work. Will my luck be different in Sacramento?

PS: I am looking at craigslist and seeing a lot of houses going for really cheap in areas like Dunnigan, and clearlake). Are these houses in good areas?

I've been looking for IT jobs and nothing worth applying for appears to be available. The jobs that are available are from employers who want the world, on call availability and odd hours for $11 an hour. Yes, they want certifications for these jobs. There is also some number of jobs available wherein the employers want you to use your vehicle to run errands in addition to doing service calls to places like Eureka and Santa Maria without providing overnight accommodations because they want you back in Sacramento to be ready to dispatch you to another location 6 hours away the next morning. The pay for these is about $18 an hour.

Most people say that their luck is different in Sacramento than it was in LA. I got more work as a substitute teacher from 5 school districts in the greater Sacramento area -and not just the bad area ones, either, like down in SoCal. The big difference (for me, at least) was that Sacramento has in its favor proximity to San Francisco. Quite a few people live in the Sacramento area and commute to the Bay Area. So it's not like all hope is gone the way it is in LA.

Now, on second thought, that was true for me back in 2002-2003 so I don't know what the job scene is there now.

The problem with the "cheap" listings on craigslist is that they have a catch. You have to have a job with at least 3 months' worth of paychecks to show before you can rent the cheapest things. Even extended-stay hotels seem to be requiring paystubs before they'll let you check in.

why would businesses be offering $18 per hour for people with Bachelors in IT? that sounds weird. Doesn't the Military have tons of jobs for people like you with high pay? go on usajobs.gov

Maybe I've misread the whole IT thing.
