Hey Sacguy71,

A Hurricane, tropical depression, severe thunderstorms and flooding just ravaged huge parts of the eastern USA from Florida to New York. I can deal with a few toasty high temps as I lounge in the pool.

Despite this heatwave, we got a walk in this morning outside, it was 72F-74F during the 1 hour walk. That is warm for a Sacramento morning, usually its in the upper 50's low 60's when we do that walk.

Here's a forecast for ya, highs in the 80's next week, low's in the 50's. It's gonna get Cool and Comfortable, oh no. Let's all start talking about it now so it seems like its happening now, ya know, like we do when the forecast is for a few toasty high temps that haven't happened yet.

Not fair Chimerique- Florida is 10x cheaper than anyplace California and far away. Also parts of Florida are out of the hurricane path. Now it is wicked humid there in Florida all the time. I know as I've spent time in Orlando, Miami and Palm Beach. You need a pool and boat and good air conditioning there. But way less expensive, no covid lockdowns more freedom and real estate 1/2 the cost and less taxes. We have record temps for May and June and July due to global warming.

A better comparison would be to Oregon and Nevada and parts of Arizona. Oregon has a rare heat wave right now.

Last night it was over 80F most of the night well into 5am. I had to run my A/C which is rare as usually it cools down at night even in summer and just run the house fans. Anyways, no biggie, I plan to use my pool a lot now in my new home and it is really refreshing way to cool off and exercise. I don't use the AC as much now. Glad you like your ice cream at Gunther's- I am on diet and cannot eat it. Plus I've heard bad reviews of that place as way overpriced and not that tasty. I prefer Baskin Robins or just get cheap grocery store low carb ice cream with no sugar added.

"Highs in the 80s" when the lowest high in the 10 day forecast is 89 is kind of a stretch. It's okay to admit it's hot here during the day, everyone knows it. Maybe later in the week it'll be cool enough to hike down to Devine for some gelato or take light rail to Devil May Care for ice cream, but in a pinch Rick's Dessert Diner sells Gunther's. Maybe late tonight once it's cooled off to the high 80s.

It's, also, ok to admit when its cool and comfortable in the dead of summer. It actually happens everyday a lot. In June, Most days it was cool and/or comfortable more hours than not. Everyone knows it and takes it for granted but no one really says it out loud.

JUNE 2021 LOW TEMPS

How many days of Cool 50's?

Sacramento - 21 days
Seattle - 17 days
Denver - 16 days
Portland - 15 days
New Orleans - Zero days, all days temps never lower than 70's and 80's
Baltimore - Zero days

How many days of Cool to Comfortable 60's?
Portland - 11 days
Sacramento - 9 days, all other days Cooler than the 60's
Seattle - 8 days
Baltimore - 8 days

Everyday in June, Sacramento cooled into the 40's, 50's and 60's. It always cooled below 70F.

Both Portland and Seattle had a few days that stayed in the 70's overnight (some days that cooled into the 40's).

I believe the heat wave has subsided. Lets see how fast and how much it cools this evening.

8pm, July 11, 2021

Nevada City, CA 92F - Sierra Foothills

It's the Pacific Ocean that cools Sacramento by way of the California Delta, but that cooling rarely reaches Nevada City, that's why it is 10 degrees warmer right now in the Sierra Foothills than Sacramento.

Sacramento 82F

San Francisco Feels like temp of 48F
The NorCal coast is 40+ degrees cooler than the Sierra Foothills right now.

When it is this Cold in San Francisco it means Sacramento is very pleasant.

Some dramatic cooling in Sacramento this evening, great for the evening walk, beautiful night!

Phoenix 102F
Las Vegas 99F

Fresno 84F - A large part of the Central Valley does not receive consistent adequate cooling from the Pacific

Nevada City 80F - Sierra Foothills can stay quite warm, a lot warmer than Sacramento tonight.

Sacramento 68F - Delta Breeze by way of the cold Pacific, Sacramento is in the Central Valley but it is also a "Delta Town", hence the dramatic cooling.

San Francisco 48F (feels like temp) - NorCal Coast can be pretty darn cold for the summer.

Thanks I'm glad you like! Ya, we took the walk at 8pm, not 11pm, and it was absolutely gorgeous!

I post mid-day temps too!

Around Noon, earlier today Jun 27, 2021

Sacramento 78F

Seattle 95F - and legitimately humid, dew point 65F. All that water surrounding Seattle ain't doing it any justice, just making it worse.
Portland 95F - and legitimately muggy, dew point 60F

Phoenix 109F
