I’ve been looking for jobs in multiple spots. What do you think of Yuba? I read there is a gang problem there? And it looks like houses/rent might be cheaper than around Sacramento. Any thoughts?

I grew up in Yuba County. Housing is cheaper because there are very few good paying jobs locally, you can pretty much bet on commuting to Sac or Chico for decent pay. The gang thing is extremely overblown - like any city there is a rough element if that is what you seek out but it isn't so prevalent that you are in jeopardy every day by any means. Opportunities for recreation usually involve a drive out of the area, it's kind of a sleepy town. I would suggest sticking to most parts of Yuba City as opposed to Marysville or most of Olivehurst, definitely steer clear of all of Linda. Plumas Lake area is pretty nice but a bit remote.

I have lived in Linda for nearly 4yrs. The Edgewater area in particular. It is a nice area. Any crime we have comes from outside of the area. The Sheriffs are good about responding and doing random patrols. Sacramento and Roseville are about 40-45 minutes away. Yes, housing is cheaper out here than Sacramento, so is the gas and car insurance. As far as Yuba City, I personally haven't noticed any gangs. I'm sure there here just not in any area I've been to. As far as things to do, it depends on what you like to do. There are a lot of outdoor activities to do in the area; hiking, fishing, boating, cave exploration etc.... There's a movie theater, typical chain restaurants and fast food(Applebee's, Pete's, Ihop, Denny's, Panera, El pollo loco, Popeye's, CJ, Mcd, bk, In-n-out etc....) For shopping there's not too much; Kohl's, Jcp, Ross,Target, Forever 21, Sears, Ulta etc) There's an art/music community out here too.

You will find Yuba City a little more expensive than Linda or Marysville. There is also more growth happening in Yuba City too. Marysville's growth is slow to non existent. It only takes us 10-15 minutes to get into Yuba City and up to 30 in heavy traffic.

Plumas lake is nice. It'll put you closer to Sac, but it's like living in a bubble. There's only a Walgreens and gas station there. I do believe they have a lot of community events there.

I say come and check it out. Oh, what I don't like is that there is a homeless problem out here. Probably no different than Sac though.

Also, there are some good schools and really bad ones out here too. What ages/grades are your kids? My high schoolers go to MCAA(Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts) a wonderful 7-12 school rated a 9/10.
