Hi can anyone tell me about the community of Wilton? Schools, crime, negatives/positives?

Saw it last summer, and it was sparsely populated. Homes on huge lots, but very minimal landscaping, at least in the area I had seen.

Wilton was a farm town that on the fringe of the greater Sacramento region. During the last housing boom, a lot of the farms were subdivided into equestrian estates. The equestrian estates attract the gentleman farmers. The lots are too small to support yourself exclusively through farming but if you still want enough space to board horses, llamas or ostriches, you could still probably do that there. While you had a job somewhere else. You are still fairly close to the Consumnes River and I don't know about flooding.

The schools themselves are kind of mixed. You have a mixture of farm kids and children of the people wealthy enough to be gentleman farmers. You could probably send your kids to other schools in Elk Grove if you wanted to.

But if you were really into equestrian stuff, I myself would probably look more closer to Rancho Murrieta. The Rancho Murrieta Equine Complex is really nice and the schools are better (more gentleman farmers and fewer farm kids).

Wilton will be Elk Grove schools. The high school/junior high (they are on the same campus) consistently scores high on the standardized test (STAR). Which has it's faults and flaws, but it is the measuring stick we have. It's a newer school (no longer the newest). It opened in 2005 and has a caring staff and relatively minimal problems. (what high school doesn't have problems at some level....ya know?) The elementary school is good as well. I just didn't have children attend that school, so I don't know the inner workings.

It's rural. If you have a horse, this is your place. You'll be about 15-30 minutes from town (EG) depending on where exactly you are in Wilton.

Conservative, politically. But it has a nudist colony (they keep to themselves and you'll be surprised when you find out who's a member!).

The one caution is to make sure whatever you buy is above the flood plain. You'll notice houses on a hill on the property. There's a reason for that. The Cosumnes River is prone to overflowing its banks when the rains come for extended periods of time. It's not often, but you want to avoid even one flood, ya know?

Good people out there.
