Hello Everyone,

I had the pleasure of visiting Salem/Keizer this past weekend. I must say I LOVED IT! YES there were a few parts of town I would not live, buy or rent in. But there are areas i would Love to be. First off we went to a fabulous dinner at " The best little Road house" and I have to tell you...I LOVED IT. I have never enjoyed an out of town even out of state dinner so much. I love to people watch my husband calls it a habbit haha. But the people were so friendly, even in the airport we met some really nice people who chatted with us the whole way to oregon about salem. We were honored to come and stay for a few days this time. Last time we visited just portland and it was way to much for us all at once. We looked around the Clearlake area, and feel in love. I can't wait to go back and move there. We had no issues with our stay, loved the rain, the freeways were not busy at all, nor the streets. I did notice one thing...when we were in portland not alot of people smoked..but in salem i noticed a lot more people do. Thats the only thing I really noticed between the two cities, oh and traffic is way less hectic. I'll post pictures soon!

Well glad you enjoyed Salem. The best little roadhouse is quite average fare, so you'll have some restaurant exploring to do in the area.

We plan on moving right after my daughter is complete with the 2nd grade here in Arizona. I don't feel right moving her in the middle of the year so any time at the end of May we are clear to leave. She is at the top 1% of her class and is put in a 3rd grade class twice a week so she doesn't get bored so I know moving middle year wont hurt to much its like she will be missing out on anything she doesn't know already. We have enough saved up to last us a while, which is great we could leave next week actually but my job here and paying off the car recently means I can even save up more if i stay till may. If anything doesn't go our way here in Arizona before May we will move asap, if not May it is! We love the Clearlake school for our daugther and that is not changing, we visited the school and know that is where we want to be. A lot of people tell us to stay away from NE and SE but didn't get a chance to look out west either. I am assuming I will rent for a year then if we want to move, we can. But I would prefer to keep her in that school till she is done and going to middle school then we move again. But we will see. I love salem, don't get me wrong I love portland too and all its wonders, but its just to much of a city for me right now. I want to get away from that.

Oh and silverfall, it was nice to see a lot of people together in one place while we were there. last time we visited every place we went to was dead and quiet. It was in the summer, funny enough more people were out when it was raining We wanted to try Word of mouth bistro but it was way to packed so we just ended up at dennys. We wanted to hit the Keizer area before 8 am so that was our quickest option. We also ate at Los Hermanos resturant for some papusas ( my hubby is Salvadorian) and the owner was oh so sweet and reminded us of his mom funny enough. We can't wait to go back. The kids were every so sweet at the school when we picked up enrollment packets, i was blown away how welcoming they were. I knew instantly this is where we need to be.

My husband and I would like to move to Salem from Hawaii. Any advice on schools and what sports for children? I have four children 2, 8,10, and 11 and I would like for them to get into sports and other activities. I'm also trying to research jobs. I've worked in medical offices and currently working as an Admin in the Sales Department for a candy distribution company. My husband is a CDL driver and Heavy Equipment Operator although he would like to try something different. Any feed back and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Find where you would like to be and than find a job. Don't make the move without one. As for sports there really is no one place better than another.

I think most people can agree.. Oregon is one of the friendliest states out there. Oregonians are just nice people, and for the most part open to differences. Holding a door open for someone (sometimes for an awkward amount of time where you feel you need to run) is common. Stopping for people to cross the street, helping you take your cart back, so on. Having spent some time on the east coast.. made me realize how incredibly nice Oregonians were. I remember holding a door open for someone in NYC, and they looked at me like I was a crazed person who planned on robbing them. It was really quite shocking.

However, in Oregon.. people are pretty cool and laid back.
