Stay on the original route.
Denver to SLC via I-70 and Rt 40 could be a nightmare if the weather does not like you !!

I would only do that in Summer !!

Consider the following.
One more night in a motel is cheaper than a big repair bill, because you got tired ...
I70 to I40 is much more work and takes you down south through St. Louis. Doesn't make much sense when you can grab I80 straight across fly-over country, dropping south at Wyoming. Really easy into Salt Lake.

Someone above mentioned the Gary, IN, to I-294 exit area off of I-80. Been there done that too many times. All I have to say is DO NOT....I repeat DO NOT hit that stretch of road AFTER 2pm in the afternoon or you'll be stuck in dead stopped traffic for many miles and hours. It is horrible believe me. Other than that I've traveled from Youngstown to the West Coast on I-80 too many times to mention and clearly THAT part was the worst to get past. Yeah those troopers in Nebraska have really become a pain in the arse. No worse than Ohio troopers however, whom have had a reputation for decades ;-)

Yes left Sunday! And good thing, one day later and I would have been a sitting or floating duck in NY.

Drive was long, and pretty uneventful. I 80 isn't scenic at all! The weirdest place for me was Wyoming, what an isolated place! Really felt like an out of towner there and like I was stepping back in time.

Congrats you made it! Just in time for all the snow. Very grateful you left before the hurricane hit. Hope you are enjoying it, and that it ends up being a good move for you. Salt Lake and the mountains in general offer so much beauty, and so much to do.

But it looked like I was wearing those glasses where things are in front of you and the background, I can't describe it but I have never seen this before, even when I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.

OK, I understand what you mean. Seemed like you were not *on* the ground, but more *in space* ?
