Hi All,
We currently live in Maine and are looking at Utah for a possible place to relocate. We are looking for a small town that is safe but not too expensive. We are self employed and need to be within commuting distance to an airport. We looked around Florida but I freaked about the crocks and rattle snakes lol. My question is, is there any place that a Maine family could live and not eaten bitten or eaten by the wildlife lol. We also need friendly people!
Thanks for any help you can give us.

You might consider Tooele. It's smallish and kind of off on its own, but is within a reasonable driving distance to the airport. It's also somewhat less expensive than other nearby cities, and not a crocodile to be seen, lol. Utah does have rattlesnakes, but generally not in populated areas. Watch out when you're hiking, though.

I second that about Tooele County. I have yet to see a croc in these parts. Did have a garden snake in my yard scare me half to death, but no rattlers.

Stansbury Park is a bit closer than Tooele city and that would put you right around the 30 minute mark to the airport.

I have a friend that lives in Tooele and he loves it there. It is small town but close to SLC. Stansbury is even better. Great suggestions!!!

Just curious why is it that you are looking to get away from Maine and why you are choosing Utah? I would suggest Idaho unless you are looking for more heat. Then maybe I'd suggest northern AZ... theres a bunch of critters when you get out here in the desert states (CO,UT,NM,TX,AZ,NV sorta CA)... but they keep to themselves pretty well Small town in UT though....might be a bit of a culture shock unless you are LDS.

I did suffer some culture shock moving to Utah from NJ, and we are not LDS, but it was all good and I couldn't be happier living here! I think it was more of a costal to a non coastal adjustment rather than a Utah thing though.

There are tons of incredible places to live in Utah! If you're looking for really cold winter weather --- move to Cache Valley (Northern Utah). If you're looking for warmer winter temps, try central or southern Utah. There are many, many wonderful small towns to love in Utah.

Don't move to Idaho. its so ugly. Especially compared to maine. Northern Idaho is pretty, but you will be in the middle of nowhere.
