Our family is wanting to leave Idaho and move down to Utah. Car sales are down significantly in North Idaho. We live in a rural area and are wanting to move to a more of a populated area. We chose Salt Lake City because, it would be somewhat a short move, very family friendly, and of course a larger population. We are exited to experience what your cities in the area have to offer. My husband is in car sales at this time and I was wondering how is that business doing down there? Are some dealerships shutting down? Also what kinds of cars, trucks, and manufacturers are big down there. Any information about it would be helpful.

.

Another question I have is what is your weekly classified newspaper called? I am looking for a newspaper like Nickels Worth, Penny Savers, or anything like that; and do you have a link for it?

Thank you for replies.

as far as I know used car sales are actually doing pretty decent, new car sales are where its a bit slower. Im not in the industry so take my word for what its worth but when we were car shopping recently there were quite a few people shopping and buying used cars. I have also read quite a few articles online saying used car sales are doing pretty good

Thank you for your reply Tim Tim Tim. Are there any area or cities of south the SLC that have some great dealerships? We are looking for an area to move that housing is fairly low, we will be renting, and not to far from where my husband will be working. We have two toddlers so we would want somewhere that is family friendly with parks. Any ideas? I have done some research on the internet, but would like opinions of people who know the area. Anyone have any suggestions?

I hate to sound like a bropken record, but most smaller towns, in fact much of the SL valley south of the city itself, is heavily LDS. If that bothers you, look clse into the city. I oinly say that since there are some posters who have complained about the LDS influence after they got here. What did they expect? It does not bother me but then I live in SLC itself. I would not a like a small town on so many levels, religion would be near the bottom of why I'd be unhappy!

Probably best to find the job first, commutes can be long as most of the traffic travels up and down I-15. Ken Garf has dealershiops all over town as does Larry H Miller Motors.

The Salt Lake Tribune has a big classifieds section (www.sltrib.com)

Thank you SouthernBelleInUtah. I don't know if living among LDS would bother me or not, we are not LDS. At this time we don't have much of a life besides working and raising two toddlers, so we probably won't be really interacting except at the park, stores, and any family activities. When I look up the % of LDS in the population of Sandy, West Valley, Murray, Midvale, Talorsville, and others around there on Sperlings BestPlaces it says 56% LDS. It is 56% LDS in SLC too. Is there really a difference between SLC and the surrounding area that the % is not telling.? I understand that there are neighborhoods that may have more LDS, but wouldn't there be neighborhoods with less too since the % is at 56 LDS? The one issue that may really hurt us moving there is what if LDS folks will not purchase a car from my husband because he isn't LDS? I wonder if my husband not being LDS would make such an impact on his sales.

In the metro area I doubt if it would. I have no clue about smaller towns. Maybe someone else could help you with smaller towns.

I lived in a town of about 12,000 in Miss. and I went to the "big city" almost every weekend to shop, see movies, and do other fun things. Small towns to me are just boring. But to each, his own.

I wouldnt really go by that percentage, it doenst sound very accurate to me. alot of the east side tends to be more lds and the further west, the less lds. The downside is that the eastside is the nicer side, figures huh. Honestly there are alot of decent dealerships spread out. Some are downtown, there is the automall in sandy which has a decent amount of dealerships all on that same little road. Id recomend something in the south jordan area as one of my favorites. Its just a clean, new area that really seems to be diverse and its also pretty affordable for what you get. The downside is depending how far west you go, your commute downtown could suck although they are building a trax line over there which would be VERY nice for that.

What is West Valley like? I see that they have lower priced housing and was wondering how are the schools, how much crime, and what are the LDS folks and non-LDS folks like? Anyone know how a non LDS family with 2 little ones fit in? Are there a lot of parks and shopping centers; and are they run down?

There are some nice areas of West Valley City but you will have to use the "search this forum" feature as it has been discussed several times. A lot of it is trashy.

You didn't say if you are going to rent or buy and what your target price range is. That would give us a clue to help you better!

90% of west valley is dirty and full of mexicans. Basically if your going to be on the west side of the valley id recomend no further north then west jordan (there are a few pockets of nice houses in magna, west valley and kearns but generally there the lower class parts of the valley)
