I'd like to pose a question or two to those of you who met your future spouses in Utah and married in Utah, if you don't mind sharing.. How'd you meet and how old were you when you got married?

My plans to move to SLC are moving along nicely but being over 25 and never married with no kids, I have the usual concerns about dating and not wanting to end up an old maid, and while I'm not going to let that hold me back from relocating to Utah, I'd sure like to hear some other people's stories to put things better in perspective.

I was 25 and my wife was 24 when we married. The average age for getting married everywhere in America is increasing which I believe is a good thing. However, its also true that the average age for marriage in Utah is either the very lowest or one of the lowest in the country. It seems kind of ridiculous now, but I actually felt a little on the old side getting married at age 25 (over 20 years ago). Some people actually told me that directly or at least insinuated that in conversations.

My wife and I were both 27 when we met. She was a neighbor across from me in a one level apartment complex. However I was relocating to the Chicago area after we were together for over 6 months, so I proposed and she accepted, moving to be with me there. We both agreed we didn't care for it after a year and a half of living there, so we relocated to the SF Bay area where we lived for 10 years house and all. We decided with the way the California cost of living was at the time (1993) to sell our home and make the move back to Utah. We rented townhomes until having a home built in Herriman in 2003. We do not have little ones and never really bought into the whole mega baby culture here, but otherwise we manage. The most important thing in a relationship IMHO is that you both read off of the same page as far as your desires for the future and how you intend to handle them. Making plausible real world goals and plans for your future as a couple is also a very good thing to work on together. I think there are more than enough "like minded" folks for you to have a shot at finding someone here besides hanging out in some club or bar. Attending a house of worship of your choice is not a bad idea either. Just don't be surprised if you have some young (or not so young) folks come to your door to chat with you regarding the religion de jour . It's just part of the local culture....you can get over it...I did

Although we weren't raised in Utah, nor are LDS, my DH and I got married when we were barely 19..not just the Utah/LDS folks that marry young, you know...
