I'm trying to travel from San Antonio to Austin. In both cities, I'll be staying near the downtown areas. What is the best option for traveling between these cities?

If you don't have/need a car, the bus would be best. From the Greyhound station downtown San Antonio to the station in north Austin. A city bus from there to downtown.

Actually, I try to avoid IH-35 when heading to Austin. I have found that taking 281 north, the cutting east on one of a variety of roads that head that way is far more enjoyable and relaxing then battling the brain-dead zombies that scream up the interstate.

Sure, it takes a little longer; but considering the reduced stress and scenery that you get to see, it's a much better option in my book!

The thought of taking a bus gives me shivers!

Cheers! M2

The stress of 281 is getting just as bad, though. And considering that it's fewer lanes (much of it just one lane), it seems like a minor traffic jam would be disastrous. For a one-lane highway, a lot of people actually do travel it.

That is true, until you get north of Stone Oak it can be bad; but once you break away from that area it usually is a nice drive...

I drive to Austin at least once a week for work... and if you get on the interstate after 9AM, it's not so bad. I try and schedule my work for around 10AM so I don't have to deal with the traffic.
