I have lived on the NW side of San Antonio now for 3 years and this question has been bugging the heck out of me; Why do people north of I410 and west of I10 drive 5 to 10 mph below the speed limit?
I know traveling up Bandera Road you go thru Leon Valley however, you could still drive the speed limit of 45 mph instead of 35 mph. I have even seen people drive this slow when only 2 or 3 cars are on the road. This type of driving occurs on Fredericksburg, Babcock, Huebner and most of the other streets in this area. I have even seen people slow down on 1604 once they drive west of I10 when beforehand they were driving 70 – 75 mph. Does anyone have a reason for this behavior?

maybe they are being cautious. just because the Speed Limit is 45 doesn't mean people have to drive 45, it means not to surpass that speed.

Before this turns into another stupid driver thread, bottom line: if you can, pass them up. If not enjoy the ride! and move on with the rest of your day.

Limit= The fastest you can legally drive.
Minimum=The slowest you can legally drive.

Hope this helps.

Oon Bandera in Leon Valley if you go just one mile over the speed limit you can instantly get a speeding ticket. Since speed fluctuates it is better to go safely under the speed limit, everyone is being intentionally cautious there.

It's a San Antonio thing, people are notorious for driving incredibly slow. I have live in many places in my life (DC area and ATL included) and I have NEVER seen the amount of buffoonery that goes on here. I think it's a mix of TXDot not engineering the roads correctly (such as the speed limit being 55 MPH west bound on Bandera just outside of 1604 then reducing to 45 once clear of the congested area) and the serious "melting pot" of people here.

It's just the way it is. I adjust my work schedule to try and avoid the "amateur hours"

Oh yeah...I bet a lot of people don't know that San Antonio has a local ordnance that makes the MINIMUM speed 10 MPH under the posted limit. Obviously, it's not enforced.

If they drove through Thailand the way they do here in town, they would be found on the side of the road with a very wrecked vehicle.

One of the few things I love about Houston is the toll roads and people haulin' holy hell through the toll booths. It's a blast! Me wants toll roads! Nothing but me, my lil' Texas toll pass thingy and the wind.

That boggles my mind, too. Happens all the time on Babcock outside the loop.

I also am mindboggled by the cabs here - I've never lived or worked anyplace where the cabbies drive slower than everyone else, which is the case here. Crazy!

Thank God there is someone else out there that would LOVE that! I get so tired of listening to Terri Hall run her trap...she really should shut her pie hole. She lives in Spring Branch and home schools her kids...so she doesn't deal with the God forsaken traffic. Just sayin...

Under 5 mph is nothing to gripe about. Go around the person if it bothers you that much. Sometimes I even do this to ensure I don't get a BS ticket in areas like AH, BH, LV, etc.

Under 10 mph is a different story however considering where you are driving and if you are able to get around the person safety.
