Hiya, new member. One of my biggest frustrations with San Antonio is the lack of eclectic or fine dining alternatives. All there seems to be is Bill Millers (on every corner), McDonalds' Burger Kings', and other unhealthy chain restaurants. Then there's the endless array of tacerias or some variation thereof....and then we wonder why everyone here is so big.

For every 10 Bill Millers' there's a gym (tucked away in a strip mall).

So does anyone know of any hole in the wall, eclectic eateries that are HEALTHY alternatives at a reasonable price? Thanks.

OK, everybody knows I'm gonna suggest this! "Green" is a fairly new vegetarian place that opened just outside of downtown and I love it! Big fan here! Check it out www.greensanantonio.com !

Another favorite is The Cove (thanx again for the recommendation googie!), it's a quirky place (includes a car wash and laundromat), but they have great fish & shrimp tacos (and a great spinach salad comes with the "sampler" plates) and some yummy vegetarian choices, as well as salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a fairly extensive beer selection. www.thecove.us

Twin Sisters off N. New Braunfels behind the Witte Museum (Alamo Heights area)....cozy and healthy! Whole Foods (all locations) has a busy deli style buffet with lots of great healthy food....and you don't really feel like you're eating in a "grocery store".

Joseph's at Mulberry and 281....really good food...mom and pop all the way!

Entree's on McCullough in Olmos Park. They also cater....veggie quiche is super!

There are lots of others tucked away here and there.....those are just a few in my "radar".

Please come back and share what you find!

Twin Sisters is on North New Braunfels near the McNay Art Museum.( The Witte is on Broadway). Twins is in the back of the strip center at the end near the McNay.
Also, Giovanni's Restaurant and Catering
903 Brazos (corner of Guadelupe and Brazos ) just west of downtown.
210-212-6626.
All the food is homemade, all fresh and very New York Italian.
You can bring your own beer or wine if you want.
Call first before you make the trip. If there is a catering, the restaurant is closed.

There's a little cafe off I-10, called Cool Cafe
12651 Vance Jackson Road, San Antonio, TX 78230
(210) 877-5001
(210) 481-6196 (fax)
They have a lot of vegetarian choices, though they are not vegetarian. Have a middle east flair if I recall correctly.....

As I understand the name of the thread, you are NOT particularly looking for vegetarian, but do want healthy and perhaps eclectic....

Not terribly different, but with a packed menu, lots of good sounding choices....
Mimi's Cafe at the Rim.....

I had a meatloaf Ciabatta sandwich - LOVED it.... but then I'm a real meat lover...

There's another little free standing restaurant up at the Rim, dying to try it, cannot think of the name of it at all... looks very upscale, also, so I won't likely be going soon...

Also, the 'new' (is it that new?) Bass Pro Shop at the Rim has a restaurant inside....
