We are relocating from Maryland to Texas this year. We have had a difficult time looking for a "Mayberry" type location in SA. Somewhere safe for young children, good schools, low crime. Any suggestions? Also, where are the good hospitals located?

Thanks!

Wow, did you know you have 38 posts, and they are all identical??????????? I've just never seen that before!!

Mayberry was a fictional place on TV, 50 or more years ago, so I am not quite sure that you are going to find anything remotely close to that. We do have some very nice, low-crime areas with good schools. Look on the far west side, northwest side, north side, northeast side, southside in some spots, southeast side in some spots, downtown in some spots. San Antonio is very nice with lots of good areas.

Yes, I realized that a little too late, regarding the posts. We're selling our house and it wasn't until post number 37 I found the classified thread. I'm pretty new to this site.

Okay, Mayberry was just a conceptual idea, of course. What is the comparison of medical care between Austin and SA? Are the hospitals better, the same, or worse in either areas?

What's the commute like from SW Austin to SA?

Thanks!

Not very "Mayberry-ish", that's for sure! Like, 2 hours of pure driving torture, if you ask me.

Funny you ask about Mayberry, as I believe the Express-News did an article on Boerne a few weeks ago that compared it to Mayberry.

Despite the tongue-in-cheek nature of your question, Boerne sounds as close as anything to what you're looking for, and among the smaller towns surrounding SA, they seem to have the best plan and vision for dealing with the growth that has already come there and will continue to come. That's not to say Boerne is in danger of turning into a big city any time soon, but despite its rather high housing prices, it is popular for many of the attributes you listed (schools, lack of crime, small town feel, etc.) Also, Methodist hospital systems has a medical center and new emergency care unit in Boerne, and the South Texas Medical Center is about a 25 minute drive down I-10.

Everybody in Mayberry was white. Is that what you are looking for?
