In the city, I know how to recognize when they do this. I slow it down and keep my following distance to about 2-3 cars and go as slow as they will go until I can exit the freeway just as soon as they pass the exit first. On streets, I look for the nearest right turn onto a road that will go some distance and do the same type of thing. I'm not feeding the money machine.

Not me - I double-check to be sure I'm at or below the posted speed, then continue on. If I pass 'em, so be it. SOME LEO's will purposely go 5 mph slower than the posted limit just so folks CAN go on around 'em and not impede them.

Out of curiosity, this is only valid when you're driving over the speed limit & they're trying to pace you over the speed limit, correct? It it's under the speed limit, it's irrelevant, correct? They're not supposed to pull you over if you're not over the speed limit nor breaking any other laws.

Even so, I don't trust that assumption under any circumstance.

If they think they have probably cause for ANYTHING they can pull you over, so the short answer is "NO".

There might be dozens of other drivers who were speeding, tailgating, ran red light, didn't use turn signals, etc. It doesn't matter. Some get caught, and they get a ticket.
This cop might baited you. Again - it doesn't matter. You took the bait, and you have to pay for it.
Now you are acting like mommie caught you with your hand in the cookie jar, and she's to blame because she put the cookies in the jar.

Bottom line: If you see a cop on the road, you should not maintain his speed. Let him pass you. Don't ever pass a cop unless he is turning, stopping or slowing to take an exit. Some of them actually are offended by people who pass them. It's like an affront to their authority.
You've missed the point of his thread, like badly.

Not entirely relevant to this thread, but my friend is a surgeon who was given a speeding ticket as he was rushing to the hospital to perform emergency, life saving surgery on an infant. Lousy judgement by the cop.

The cop probably didn't believe him.

In a situation like this, I thought the police is supposed to escort him to the hospital. You know, like if you are rushing a pregnant woman to the hospital.

Something doesn't seem right if a cop holds up a surgeon on his way to save somebody's life but then not all cops have regard for life.

Not really - the doc was speeding, and there's NO defense to putting others at risk. Methinks that there was something more than what your friend told you.

Sometimes I think that way too when I see a cop speeding excessively, running red lights, not using turn signals when changing lanes, etc.
