FWIW, here's my tiers for San Antonio burger establishments:

Best:
Chris Madrid's

Good:
Chester's, Culver's, Longhorn Cafe, Babe's, Whatburger

Eh:
In-N-Out, Freddy's

Never again:
Five Guys

Haven't tried:
Lord's Kitchen
Fatburger
Smash Burger
Do we still have Fatburger here in San Antonio? I thought they closed down. I know the Huebner location did for sure.

I am not a fan of Five Guys either. I actually agree with your list for the most part. I guess we can agree on burgers.

I agree with you on Chester's. I hate their buns and the burgers just don't have any flavor.

We tried Sam's Burger Joint a few months back and it was good. Fuddrucker's used to be a family favorite but we haven't been in ages.

I'll have to check out Culver's sometime.
What's with the hate on 5 Guys? I like their burgers and definitely their fries better than In N Out but it's an expensive meal for fast-ish food.

I enjoyed the beer selection, but a few years ago I took visitors to the one on 281 and had the worst restaurant experience of my life and haven't returned. There was obviously some sort of problem in the kitchen, but there were no more than 15 customers in the joint and orders were being filled about once every 10 minutes. It took an hour for our cold burgers and fries to be delivered. Customers were literally screaming and cursing and walking out the door. It was bizarre.

No hate from me because I've never tried them. They use peanut oil and seem to be peanut-centric, so they're off my radar due to a mild allergy.

I tried Culver's once and can't remember if the burger was good or bad. That tells me that it must have been unremarkable if I can't remember something I tried just a year ago. I will never eat Smash Burger again. It's even worse than Whataburger and Sonic.

Yes, it's a definite no no for someone with peanut allergies. They have peanuts all over the restaurant for customers to eat while they wait for their food.

In my experience, 5 Guys burgers are very bland, overcooked, and way overpriced.

I forgot to mention that the best burger I ever had in San Antonio was at Esquire Tavern downtown but I only had it once.
