Found out from a friend who works for them that the lease was up and it was going to go up, and that place was not very profitable for him.

There's a good article on mysa.com about it. He seems very positive about it.

“This was a conscious decision. This was an easy decision to make,” he said by phone on Thursday afternoon. “We just feel so strong in our other brands. I want to have more time to take our food truck out. It allows us to take two steps forward by taking one step back.”

Magnolia does have amazing pancakes. I just hope they keep the same level of quality when they open the new spot and I'd be eternally grateful (well, not really since I'm leaving the area) but my friends and neighbors would be pleased if they were to put this new location in Alamo Ranch. I know, fat chance. Stone Oak will probably get it.

The article doesn't go into much detail about the ongoing fued between the owner of the property and Dady: The rent has continually increased, business at the Lodge has decreased (due to several menu changes, as well as slipping levels of service) and the two can't come to any kind of long term agreement. It's become a silly war at this point, with the owner even going as far as to put a 'For Lease' sign on the gate while The Lodge was still in operation.

I like Dady's concepts. He'll land on his feet on this one. The Lodge's location was it's biggest issue. Better to cut ties now and figure out your next step forward.

Went to Magnolia Pancake Haus once based on reviews and I was actually accused of stiffing them on part of my bill when I asked them to correct their error. The woman behind the counter treated me more rudely than any other restaurant I've ever been in. It was outrageous. I tell everyone I can about this experience in hopes that I convince a few not to go. The food may be good but when your integrity is questioned for no reason over $4 or $5, you leave with a bad taste in your mouth.
