So, is this telling me that Valero pumps are especially easy to install skimmers on? 31 out of 39 is statistically significant.

Valero is unquestionably the dominant local retail motor fuel brand, which may have something to do with it. The dispensers and card readers also vary among Valero stations, depending upon what era they were installed.

While I look at the card reader every time I fill up I’m not positive I could recognize a skimmer device. With that in mind I never use my ATM card at any station. We do have a Shell card and we set up a very small limit credit card for use at other stations like Valero.

They put a "security" tape on some. It's a joke. I peeled one off and put on right back, and you wouldn't see a difference...
I just wonder - most gas stations have cameras, are they fake?

I saw something on the news a while back that said you can spot a skinner by checking to see if there is an open Bluetooth connection nearby. https://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/...s-at-gas-pumps

There's an app called Skimmer Scanner that will check for skimmers.

I had my card number stolen last year from a gas station credit card reader.

I wonder if using the skimmer scanner does anything that you can't do by just checking your phone for bluetooth devices within range?

Gas stations cameras are legit but it will take all day of looking through to find the person who might have added it.. Assuming you know the day it was added

I use to check for Bluetooth connections before gassing up. But you need to differentiate between skimmer signals and cell phones carried by other customers. I tried to gas up when there were no other cars were present. If there was a signal present when no other cars were present I'd go somewhere else.
