We are relocating to Texas from Arizona. Right now it is a toss up between East Texas and San Antonio area. Can anyone help me out here?
Are there any decent rural areas with good schools (mainly academically) where you can have a couple of acres and horses etc around the San Antonio area? If there are no houses available with land for under $175,000 can anyone tell me the going rate of building a house? Example, $65 sq ft etc and what areas I should be looking for?
Thank you for your help!

There are areas like that in Medina County which is just to the west of San Antonio. Castroville, Hondo and LaCoste are some of the towns there and many folks live in neighborhoods in the country where you can have a few acres along with some horses. The schools are Medina Valley ISD and they're considered very good. Also further north in Bandera County just north of SA...straight up Bandera Rd, otherwise known as Hwy 16. Lots of areas up there where you can have acreage too and in some parts of Bandera County, you can still be in the Northside ISD which encompasses most of northern and western Bexar County. Parts of Northside also dip into Medina County up near Medina Lake.

Does anyone have any idea what the going rate is for building a house these days? Say a 1500 Sq Ft 3bd 2ba house on your own land?

Default D'Hanis

I live in Hondo, (Medina County). The price ranges are affordable for what your looking at. I'd also recommend D'Hanis, they graduated like 25 students from their high school. When I was buying my land, it was made mention that alot of folks wanted to move out there simply because of the school. The children have more one on one time.
