Yes, as we are out of warranty (5 year warranty, now in it's 7th year). I don't know of any warranties that you can purchase after initial warranty has run out, and that has a "pre-existing condition".

However, we just found out that we have leaks in the evaporative coils on both units!! (getting a second opinion as we speak). That's a 3.5K fix, bleah!!
How big is your house? How old?

there are whole house warranties, but I don't know how they would work with a pre-existing problem. I'm thinking they'd do anything to not pay you though.

That new and you are already having issues with your system. What brand of units do you have?

And that is a big house by the way...

Carrier units.

The base house is 3450, plus we built the "bonus" second game room (400 sqft). I really didn't want so much space, but the kids use it alot. We will be making the bonus room into a home theater within the next year (not top of the line, but decent).

We needed a floor plan with a secondary bedroom on the ground floor, as my son has an orthopedic condition that may affect his ability to climb stairs someday. Unfortunately, that translated to "BIG". We also wanted a spare bedroom for when my hubby's family would visit...after we built, they all moved here!

I did budget for what I thought would be high(300.00) but when the rate goes from.005 to .040 in 4 months you can pretty much throw out any budget plans.Plus you've got to re-calculate for fuel increases for travel to work.Re-calculate for food increases at the market for feeding a family.Re-calculate your property tax increases every year.Sure you could say just re-estimate all living expenses higher than expected but what about that little thing called income.Maybe our employers will re-calculate our pay to accomodate all these budget set backs.
