I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. Can you explain here, DM me, or start another thread so we don't hijack this one. I don't keep up like I should, so I honestly don't know what you mean here....thanks.....

I'm sure that was the primary factor. Even with the improved service over the past few years, it can be hard to get here without a connection sometimes. My worry now is what impact this will have on air service here as I'm sure some of the improvements we've had were a result of AT&T's presence.

It just seems a little strange that a communications giant would even need to send their people out.....didn't they invent conference calls? I participate in those on a weekly basis--no need to hop on a plane. Training is done via the internet. What's all the flying necessary for? The business travel I've done in the past was basically a mini-vacation on the company's dime. And if most people are honest, they'd admit that. Yes, sometimes a face-to-face is absolutely necessary, but not always. You would think in these trying times, there would be more of an effort to reduce all the "frequent flyer miles."

At least if another company comes around they could demolish those ugly buildings that AT&T was using as their HQ. Or maybe use them as residential buildings for River North since the buildings will be empty and cheap to convert?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Imagine how much money they will make just turning the two buildings that butt up against the new River Walk extention at McCullough and St Mary's. That alone would more than pay for the entire move (I'm guessing) and put them near a better airport situation.

You only need to look at history to see one of the motivators of these types of moves.

Why did AT&T move from St. Louis? Was San Antonio really in a position to provide a hugely positive impact to the company?

No, CEO Whitacre (at the time) was a "Texas guy" and wanted to return to Texas. All sorts of other reasons were cited, but you have to believe that was more than a contributing factor.

It is no conincidence that this would happen relatively soon after Stephenson takes over. Not that the other factors are not real (flights, telecom vendors) but you can be sure the top execs are not flying commercially, anyway.

I still like the fact I can make my hop though DFW or IAH and still get on the ultimate flight faster than most of my friends in those respective cities who must fight the traffic...from a long distance out.
