As if June's bill of May wasnt enough, just got the bill for June in July?!!, It's $100 more than the previous bill. Everyone I talk with says their bill has doubled from previous. Ive cleaned my AC filters every other week, I have two re-usables, keep the temp no lower than 78, damn, I'm dying. cant afford to exist between going to work and staying at home.

Mine was sky high this time too!! $300.00!!! Thank goodness I have the budget plan and don't have to pay that much. We went around last night turning all kinds of stuff off! Will have to make it up in the fall and turn everything off for awhile.

Give us some details:

Size of house - square footage
Number of floors
Garage under living areas
How old is your house
What size of A/C unit
What SEER rating
Double pane windows?
Low-e windows?
What was your last bill?

I got my bill $330. Wasn't surprised. From Dallas to Atlanta I've had much higher in the summer.
What I don't get was on the bill there was nothing that showed usage or anything. Just my name, addy, bill due amount and date due. That's it. Never really paid attention until this past month as I was curious.

The recent rain and lower temps should help the July bill we all get in August. I am in a new house and my first bill from June 18th to June 27th was $79!!! That was with the move, lots of company and trying to cool a house that had been shut up and very hot inside. The unit ran continuously for the first week. We have been using the unit much less now...but I am still nervous about the bill we get the beginning of August for our first month.

That budget is ok for now, but it will catch up, they will redo it for you, get ready to catch up if it goes negative.

my house is a 2 story, 2500 sq ft, new ac, last oct. garage converted with its seperate ac unit. single pane windows, but 2" blinds, wood & curtains.

Are the garage walls air conditioned?

Blinds don't help nearly as much as double paned windows...unless you keep your blinds/curtains closed all day long. Even then - not as good as low-e double paned windows.

How old is the house?

I know, I have been on it for years. I just lowered the monthly payment from last year by $30.00 a month. I usually don't have a payment due the last 3 or 4 months of the year becasue we are so far ahead. It will all work out but thanks for the warning!!

Yes, I wish I was still in the shutter business, I would put them on all my windows, loved those Ohares. The budget is good, but with these increases, man, everbody is gonna get bit in the rear unless they guard their behind. The garage is insulated, just the bill has doubled, not so much the usage, only increased by about 20percent,

Ours was $198.00.

We have an Energy Star home, so CPS gives us a discount of $60.00. So, even without the discount we would still be well below $300.

House specs:

2980 sq. ft.
Two story, 4 bed/3.5 bath
Energy efficient stuff throughout (too much to list)
Dual zone AC/Heat
Tile on majority of first floor (really makes a difference)

--Dim
