Anthony do you have any info as to why they are putting it in just N. of Corpus? Is that Port Lavaca? They have been talking about a break in the High pressure maybe pulling it more north and I was wondering if you heard anything about that? Of course there are a few models taking it into Corpus??? Thanks!

Default Ike

National Hurricane Center now shows landfall at 2 p.m. down by Port Aransas and Mustang Island, which would spare Galveston and Houston the worst of it but impact some vulnerable coast as well as Corpus Christi. The shift came because of the effect Cuba had on the storm, disorganizing it and causing it to drop to a Cat 1. It most likely will strengthen in the Gulf but if it comes off Cuba on a line for the lower Texas Coast it is unlikely it will get drawn back north. The good news is New Orelans is pretty much out of play now.

The models have shifted much further south and are backing off the idea of a trough pulling it north. Here's more models coming in this evening.. it's looking bad.

AnthonySA- is the declaration for areas like Austin and San Antonio so they can be reimbursed for shelter expenses for evacuees?

Yes.. the declaration is only a preliminary measure to remove unnecessary red tape to prevent hurricane preparations.

If the track shifts much farther south, the storm will become Mexico's problem, too.

Steve Browne from KSAT 12 said it's likely to become a cat 4 or 5. He also said in the 5 pm news that SA could experience winds over 100+ mphs.

WOAI 4 & KENS 5 are saying 20% chance of rain on Saturday. No chance of rain on Sunday.

I go with KSAT on this one.
