I've managed to meet a good number of people, even though I've been back where I came from more often than San Antonio since I moved at the beginning of June if that says anything.

What? Maybe you should go on and howl yourself right down to the local psyche ward. Stop breathing in those chemtrails that our gov't is spraying on ya'.

I think at first it can seem really hard because this is a place without a lot of transplants, or rather, many people don't leave and don't have a sense of what it's like to be from somewhere else. They already have their social circle.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I know it'll tough, but as long as folks here are open to the idea of new people in their lives it's worth a shot.

You guys are great, thanks.

There are tons of transplants here...I myself am from NY via NJ and San Diego...you'll have no problems. This city is growing at a decent rate and a lot of folks are moving in from all over the USA. I don't know why someone would tell you that "this is a place without a lot of transplants"...this is patently FALSE. Good luck.

Just to clarify a bit more, since clearly others have misunderstood, there are transplants, and more every day with the economic crisis hitting hard elsewhere, but unless you work in an environment that draws in people from all over, it's not as easy to find a large collection in one place.

Coming from academia, where it's the norm for everyone to be from somewhere else (across the world), to a work environment where all but 2-3 out of 100 are from Texas, yeah, it's not the same. But we transplants tend to find each other

A lot will depend not so much on the city as a whole but the immediate environment in which you find yourself.

Idunno... Just from looking at plates on my street, I'm from WA, neighbors have Florida plates and the people across the street are from NJ. None of us are military. Apparently people from out of state congregate in Deerfield
