yeah, that might be it in the late 90's but I think this was back in the 80's that I remember.

There were several "Headshops" such as "Sammies Psychedelic Cellar" downtown near Alamo Plaza, by modern art-piece. There was "La Raza Unida" at Hildebrand and Blanco... "Truckers" on Hildebrand near RR tracks.... and original at same location whose name escapes me. There were music venues... "The Pussycat"... "Love Street" near downtown... "The Mystic Moor" on Autin Highway... The old "Teen Canteen" even, out behind the Airport ...
"J Alfed Prufrock"... "The White Rabbit" and of course San Antonio's first open air drug mart "The Sunken Garden's" in Breckenridge Park... a real, genuine "trip", it lasted about two years before police figured out how to shut it down... many others... a "joint" could get you many, many years in prison, or cost a lot to fight. That I really do remember... but, as they say, that's a story for another day...

My dad coached several Highland Hills Little League teams including the all stars from 1961 to 1964. I was just discussing Mr. Keinburg with my wife, and how much he and my dad respected each other. I remember naming the fields after him down off of Dollarhide. If I remember right, the fields were sandwiched between Bob Billa up on the hill and what is now Pecan Valley Dr. 60 years the memories fade.

In the early to mid 60's we visited San Antonio from time to time. We always stayed with friends at their appt. complex on San Pedro ave. These small appartments were directly behind a drive-in burger joint. Best I can remember it had a lighted ball sign with light rods coming out all over. I wish I could remember the name and location of that place. It has been rattling around in my head for years and I hope someone can finally help me. THANX in advance.

Tom's Ribs - was pretty good. I heard the original owner died and the kids stunk it up till it closed.

Sputnik, that sounds familiar, thank you very much. I'll bet you are right. As far as the location I am guessing it was around Hildelbrand and San Pedro...somewhere around there but not sure. Food was just OK but always a few cool cars came thru.

Tunies Drive In was at the intersection of Hildebrand and San Pedro.

up close to Basse and San Pedro was Jay's Drive In (at the corner of Contour).
