I love Kostka's! I've never, ever had a bad meal there....always hot and fresh. I wonder if something's changed? $18 for lunch for one--I've spent that for two there, but not just one. Weird.

Yeah, I expected it to be good. Few days ago I ordered carry out lunch special, and it was good, but this was disappointing. At 1 pm on Saturday this place was almost empty, so there was no rush in the kitchen...

We ate at Shogun's for lunch. It's usually great, but oh my gosh, the chef WAY WAY oversalted my chicken. I was watching him (of course!) and I thought, "Dude. Too much salt!" And yes. Too much salt. But the rice, noodles and veggies were very very tasty.

Which is better? Benihana's or Shogun? I love Benihana. But I'm willing to try Shogun's.

Default Panchitos

4100 McCullough, across of Gold or near Tuesday Morning
The other location is on 1705 Zarzamora but I never been there. (to far from my work)
Oooops... I see. Mea culpa! It is not on Broadway...is on McCullough. I am sorry!

Taco Palenque on 410/Broadway. Ehhh - some good, some bad - expected better. Liked the chips and the salsa bar. DH had the "panchos" which were nachos w/beans, cheese, and fajita meat. These were pretty good, but not something for which he would rush right back. I had chicken enchiladas with green sauce - I hesitate to say enchiladas verde as I don't think these quite met my expectations for that. The chicken didn't have a huge amount of flavor and the green sauce tasted somewhat vinegar-y. Asked to substitute charra beans and the cashier said okay, but seemed to have problems getting it changed on the register; I ended up with refried but was hungry enough that it just didn't matter at that point. For the food plus 1 large drink it was $17.18.

We will probably go back at some point to try different menu items, but it is not someplace I feel compelled to go back to in the immediate future.

My folks and I ate at Mama Lee's off Valley Hi Drive. Honestly, that was some of the best home cooking we've ever had. My parents think this will become a regular haunt for them!! BTW, I haven't read through this entire thread so I apologize in advance if this has been mentioned ad nauseum...

Soul Food Restaurant, Soul Food. San Antonio, TX.
