This article was in the Express News a few months ago. It mentioned HOA rules briefly, which are really the main reason why people don't raise chickens in San Antonio. It was a pretty good read.

Backyard egg supply

Quote:
Although the city allows poultry, some homeowners associations might not. Champion's Ridge Homeowners Association in Stone Oak has a prohibition against backyard livestock, said Joe Silman, its president.

“No one has ever asked to raise chickens,” he said, noting the Stone Oak area has 29 homeowners associations and each has its own set of rules.

Do you plan to raise them:

1) as pets

2) to ennoy your neighbor

3) to get eggs

4) for dinner/lunch

Which one is it?

If you stick with just hens, your neighbors won't be mad at you. We had a small flock of chickens when I was growing up. We had one stupid rooster that would crow in the middle of the night. We finally figured out that he was waking up and seeing a full moon. The other rooster would crow around daylight. We gave the moon-crowing rooster away....
Ha! Was it here in SA? I bet the rooster over here was one of its descendants!

What if the roles are reversed. They poison your barking dog to teach you a lesson.

Not my fault that the birds came into my yard thru a gap in the fence that belongs to the neighbor who owns the birds in the first place. The birds were supposed to be caged/in a coop to begin with. Chill out dude
