I am moving to Palm Springs soon and looking to rent in a nice apartment building near downtown Palm Springs. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for a large complex, or something smaller? You'll want to stay away from the north end, and the buildings around the Circle K/Arenas area have a history of significant drug problems. Larger buildings on Tahquitz, near the airport have reasonable rent, with no significant problems. There are quite a few smaller (10 or so units) buildings west of Palm Canyon. Not sure of exact names.

Thanks! I'm looking in the $1200 - $1500 monthly range for a 1-2 bedroom. Would like a nice building with a lobby if that exists. The size of the complex doesn't matter to me. Walkable to downtown would be fabulous.

You're not going to find a lot of apartment buildings with lobbies.

One specific suggestion I could offer is my former apartment complex, on E Stevens near Indian Canyon between Desert Regional and Vista Chino. It's called Palos Verdes Villas. It's nice and quiet with reasonable rents and close to downtown.

I'm heading out there soon. Here's one I'm looking at: Marquee Apartment Homes, formally known as Andalucia Apartments. They are at 311 S Sunrise Way.

I'm looking at some other cheaper buildings in the same area. I see the cheapest ones I had picked out have now been removed from Craigslist.

Here's another one: Bermuda Palms Apartments and another one at this address: 562 South Highland Drive.

Looking for studio apt only.

Be careful. The homeless problem in PS (at least when I was there a couple years ago) was centered around Ramon & Sunrise, with folks crossing back and forth across Sunrise to hang out in the park by the stadium. There was a rash of people being hit by cars crossing either Sunrise or Ramon - granted, not all homeless people - so the city tried to put up signs reminding people to use crosswalks. I'm not sure if that worked.

I lived at the apartments on Sunrise, 25 years ago. Over the years, they seem to be about the same. A fairly large complex, but clean and quiet. I moved away from PS a year ago, but they were working on getting the homeless population in the neighborhood under control. You would be across the street from the library and a park (where the homeless hang out), next door to a grocery store, and the high school and public pool on the other side of the park. Busy area, but close to just about everything.

The Highland Dr. area has been up and down forever. Definitely check out the neighborhood.
