Hi I am currently looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in the north park area. My price limit is 1100. I found a place in city heights called solona Vista apartments and it looked good but after reading reviews there are a lot of car break ins and Roaches. It didn't look like a bad area though. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

City Heights isn't North Park. Try looking on Craigslist, and put North Park, 2bedroom, and $1100 in the search box, and see what it comes up with.

Go for the best location you can, but no matter what, a 2br for 1100 is going to be a dump.

Some are, some aren't. But you really have to go out and look at them and take the neighborhood into consideration. If you live in or are near large apartment complexes, it will be very noisy.

I have to respectfully disagree. There should be plenty out there that aren't "dumps". Maybe no pool or gym or doorman or whatever, but you can get tons of 2-bedrooms for $1100 in the North Park area.

Sure, tons of apartments with no W/D, air conditioning, wall heater, cheap single-pane aluminum slider windows, no insulation, not enough parking, cheap appliances, cheap carpet, noisy neighbors, noisy street, AKA a dump. Oh and they all have roaches.

I don't have a two bedroom but do I have from the following list:

Not an apartment, I'm in a cottage
No w/d (don't want one)
No a/c (don't use it/don't like it/don't want it)
A wall heater that I can't use due to the location of it
No insulation
Not enough parking, actually no parking
Cheap carpet
Noisy street - last night there was a party going on until 2am.
A dump
A slumlord owner, and the manager has mental problems

No roaches or any type of bugs though.

Moving is on the list when I get a job.

You really have to get out and look at the apartment and neighborhood.

Hey Armstrong, I have to disagree with our Moderator Sassberto on this one, but actually partially agree with Moved. If you look you will find something in your pricerange. Do you NEED a two bedroom? or will one suffice? I will list the pros/cons about the two places I have lived up here:

North Park
Check with First Light Property Management (Landlord Julie Dong)
We had a 1br/1ba for $1095. (2bd were 1350... too much for us)
STAINLESS STEEL appliances, Granite counters, tile and new carpet. Nice wood cabinets. Very updated.
Washer/Dryer (stackable)
Gated entry (sometimes gate gets left open, no buzzer, so visitors have to call when they arrive, packages are sometimes hard to deliver.)
One parking space (we had a covered one in the alley, but there is street side parking too... no one screwed with our car, and we have a convertible.)
Gross but I have seen used condoms in the alley. that was my least favorite part.
Kinda small, but doable if you don't have kids.

Next place - where I currently live, and don't plan on moving anytime soon
Normal Heights just off of Adams
2br/1ba for $1150
One offstreet space, pretty easy offstreet parking.
BRAND NEW on the inside, our landlord completely redid the place (I was the first to see it, and signed the lease right away) Wood floors, big eat in kitchen, new appliances (even a microwave above the stove!) HUGE new side by side washer/dryer (it is attached to our apartment, but the upstairs tenant (duplex) has access from outside door which is cool, the guy is very nice.
I have a huge lockable storage space attached to our laundry room (which is attached to my apartment)
smaller bathroom, but new everything and cute
very spacious
Neighbors are super nice and friendly
LOVE ADAMS AVE, tons of restaurants and things to walk to
Very close to farmers market - makes parking the 2nd car hard on wed afternoon, but love being able to go check it out

My advice is to not look at complex's and look for Cottages (like Moved) or small apartments like Duplex's. There are some great places out there but usually they are leased by one of the first people to see the place. Get out there and search

Oh also I need to mention, both landlords were GREAT and very nice. We do pay our rent on time so that helps... tho they are definatley NOT slumlords
