Not too shabby. Of course we have problems and yes, we have the cartels right across the border. But we are a safe place to live.

I mean, we had half the number of murders last year as Dallas, and Dallas has a slightly smaller population.

This is great to see. Really I find San Diego to be remarkably safe for a city of it's size.

Unless you're running around with the wrong type crowd/element or involved in illegal stuff (drugs, etc) I really think your chances of being involved with crime in San Diego is very low.

I remember reading a post by some girl that was talking about how dangerous San Diego was. But then she admitted she was blacked out drunk or high on drugs all the time. You hang around with shady people and you are much more likely to come into contact with crime.

Santa Ana and Anaheim are poor, but not particularly unsafe. In terms of crime rate, they are similar to SD. San Diego includes wide swaths of gang-ridden territory south of 94.

If you redo the Forbes survey, but drop traffic fatalities and lower the bar to 100,000, the top 10 will look like this:

1. Irvine, CA
2. Murrieta, CA
3. Cary, NC
4. Gilbert, AZ
5. Surprise, AZ
6. Thousand Oaks, CA
7. Round Rock, TX
8. Amherst, NY
9. Bellevue, WA
10. Sunnyvale, CA
Which towns are South of 94?

None of them from this list - was that what you were asking?

I'm guessing you were responding to the "wide swaths of gang-ridden territory south of 94" comment. It's waaaay exaggerated. Heck - we are "gang-ridden" up here in whitebread north county. They've broken our car windows to show off to each other <annoyed shrug>. This is *not* the gangs of LA or New York or Chicago.

And there are some hidden gems of neighborhoods south of the 94 in San Diego itself, so please don't let that extreme remark put you off.
