Here's another indicator that the Charger may be returning to Los Angeles:
T.J. Simers: Chargers returning to L.A.? - latimes.com (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-1207-simers-20101207,0,7255799.column - broken link)

"The way the political winds are blowing, the Chargers figure to be looking to move back to L.A. in 2012, where they could play in the Coliseum (their original home in 1960) until a new downtown stadium is ready. This could happen. Really."

What's interesting is that the Chargers or another NFL team could begin playing in LA even before the new stadium is built and now explains why LA businessmen\AEG are interested in buying part ownership of the Chargers.

Today's article points out that a commitment to a downtown stadium seems to be why AEG is taking the lead in moving the Chargers back to Los Angeles. And unless San Diego voters approve a ballot initiative to retain the Chargers then it appears that the relocation to LA is a given.

If the Chargers do end up moving to LA, I'd be surprised if the are supports them. It's Raider Nation territory up there.

Never an empty seat at Dodger games? Wrong. If you really want to break it down, given that Metro LA has 4 times as many people (not including the Inland Empire) as San Diego, for the Dodgers to only average about 43,000 people (Padres average was 26,000) a game is pretty weak, don't you think? I mean, the Dodgers should be filling up a place like the Coliseum every night if the they want get the same percentage of fans that attend games in San Diego.

And it shouldn't be a surprise that Lakers games sell out because the capacity at Staples is less than 20,000 people.

Well you do have the Angels pulling from the fan base as well, so if you take that into account the area is doing quite well.
I still would like to see the Padres and Chargers stay in SD; I think having another team in LA would help create an interesting rivalry for Southern CA.

Well, according to the link you posted, both Los Angeles baseball teams are in the highest attendance total; only Philadelphia and New York have slightly higher attendance. And nearly all NBA arenas average around 20,000 seats. So your point is again?

My point is that percentage-wise, more people attend MLB games in SD than they do in Metro LA.

Let's do the math shall we?

Population: From Wikipedia

Metro LA - 17,786,419
Metro SD - 3,053,793

Baseball attendance: From ESPN

Angels and Dodgers - 6,813,134
Padres - 2,131,774

LA - 6,813,134/17,786,419 = .383

SD - 2,131,774/3,053,774 = .698

I guess when you work with number like me, this stuff sticks out more, that's all

To my knowledge neither the Padres nor the Angels or Dodgers are in any danger of leaving their respective ball parks. But the Chargers are, in-fact, seriously considering leaving San Diego. Game blackouts and stadium issues are the reason per my understanding.

The main reason is fat cat Spanos wants several stories (each with dozens of) private boxes because NFL rules allow him to keep all of the money from the private boxes but general ticket sales have to be shared with the league. I'm fine with that but believe he should pay for it himself since he's the only one who net benefits from this. The Q is fine and works great and if he wants something else then he should pay for it himself as several other teams have done. In any event the pig Spanos made up his mind years ago to move to LA and now he's just waiting for waiting for his contract with San Diego to run out. That's why he had such an outrageous negotiating position ("give me $700 million for a new stadium, make sure I and not the city get to own the new stadium, oh, and I want you to give me all the old land at Qualcomm stadium" Can you imagine anyone else making such arrogant demands?); he never was negotiating in good faith so screw him and his team. Those welfare queens can hit the road and with the money saved maybe we can actually repave the roads.

I hate you.

Notice all the peeps talking crap from LA , Calm down now I think you guys might get the lambs oops I mean the Rams back in LA , but I also heard the Jags and the Vikings are looking for a new place , so calm down and go back to drinking your 40's and drive by's and police car chases and taking in the nice brown air you guys have up there, But remember you are not getting the Chargers .

Chargers dont belong in smoggy LA!!! dont wanna talk crap but it's the truth! They belong in SAN DIEGO

Listen you bunch of LA wannabe gangsters and clowns, The Chargers are not going to move to effed up LA . The team you guys had there did not even want to stay in effing LA , that's why they effing left that rat hole of a city . Anyway The Chargers will get a place to play in The Great Outstanding city of SAN DIEGO and will stay here , so go chase some other team and suck it LA , bunch of losers.

To be quite honest there is a reason 3 NFL teams left LA. The fans there suck balls. Go to a Dodger game some time and you'll see that the fans show up in the 3rd inning and leave in the 6th. The best suited team would be the Rams, but that brings me back to the fact they left for a reason. The only way for the stands to be filled in LA would to be build a 20,000 seat stadium. Mr spanos knows this as well as the NFL.

Chargers started in LA, but ha they didn't last, what just a damn year? Just like the Raiders didn't last in LA. Man F LA , thats a crappy place, for real, ITS been the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS since 1961!!!! SO CHARGERS ARE THE SD TEAM AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE!!!! Thank god we ain't going to gay ass LA!! I mean it doesn't even sound right L.A. Chargers eeew naw ITS THEM SAN DIEGO CHARGERS THAT SOUND ROCKIN!!

I am a San Diego Native...They are my team because they are the San Diego Chargers. If they leave I will no longer have a team to follow. So I hope they decide to stay just because this is where they belong. And because we are the best loyal fans ever. We get alot of grief...but we still defend and love Our San Diego Chargers.

For everyone saying remember where they started...you seemed to forgot how long they stayed. LA sucks

And everyone forgets that the Botls got their first Championship against the Boston Patriots while in SD, not LA.

If the Chargers were ever to go LA I'd RIP ALL my gear. Can't stand LA people who think they're tough crap! Plus "LA super Chargers" just doesn't sound like a good song anymore.

If the Chargers move to LA, then the Lakers should move back to Minneapolis. LA people need to calm it down a bit before they start claiming the Chargers as theirs. Chargers belong to SD. Period.

Do you honestly realize how much a fool you sound? I'd be embarrassed to be a fellow San Diegan! Quit attacking people because you are angry over something you have absolutely no control over unless you can convince big business concerns to ignore that they can make more money elsewhere. Your juvenile antics are preposterous. . ["I hate you"] Please!
