There is great surfing in SD County from Trestles to Tijuana Sloughs plus close to all the great Baja breaks, meaning there are laid back surfers everywhere. I live in IB which has a budding local art scene in a small-town old line surfer town, unfortunately we are pretty isolated from the rest of the county. Don't decide beforehand, just live in a few places for awhile until you find the place that feels right to you.

IB and TJ Sloughs? Isn't the water a little polluted there? I lived in SD for years and never went surfing there cos I kept seeing pollution advisories. But to be honest, I didn't explore the area much either. Mostly just because it was sort of on the other side of the bay and downtown, and from my place in OB there weren't many things in my life that brought me in that direction.

But I'd like your take on IB as an art-friendly community, and if/how it's changed over the past 10 years. I'll be moving back to SD and all communities are up for consideration. I'm definitely more attracted to an artistic bohemian kind of atmosphere.
