I'm looking at rental homes in northern areas such as Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mtn., Poway, etc. and I don't see any security systems listed on any of the rentals. I'm a little apprehensive about living anywhere without one.

Are they just not common in those areas? Do we not really need one????

I've been renting for the past 20+ in the urban core and never had a place come with a security system, unless you count a gate.

Ironically the house that we're buying in Santaluz has a security system. I was surprised because it's super safe there and it's a 24/7 guard gated community but I guess some people are paranoid.
