Looking to relocate from VA to San Diego and hold a security clearance. Trying to find out how to go about looking at jobs in San Diego while still having a VA address. Going to be visiting San Diego in July and wondering it is necessary to get a PO Box for resume purpose or how best to handle it if currently employed in VA. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

One idea is to get a job in VA and then transfer to San Diego.

Sorry, but missed the humor when it comes to securing a job.

In regards to security clearance jobs: Recently in the defense sector there has been budget cuts, government employees going on furlough, defense contracts being cancelled, contractors getting let go. Speaking in general, probably not a lot of open defense related positions right now in San Diego (and perhaps most places).

In regards to finding jobs out of state: You're more likely to get interviews if you were local. However, since you're not, are you willing to travel for interviews at your own expense? Being disingenuous about where you live might annoy people if they had to deal with hassles that wouldn't happen if a candidate is local.

From the your post, you probably have some notion of all this and have an idea what to do about it. You just want a little hand holding and that's humorous.

Check out www.USAjobs.com I have federal reinstatement eligibility, and still couldn't get back into the government. These days, most people getting jobs with clearances are the separating military. I have a friend that had several job offers six months before he retired.

Defense sector maybe, but they are still hiring. Less concerned with it specifically having to be in the defense sector.

So if I plan to visit the area this summer, would it help to get a local address to use for resume purposes?

What field are you in? If you're in IT, CSC always has dozens of positions open within the SD area (90% of them requiring a security clearance). Being so heavily invested in the military they're no strangers to hiring from out-of-state, or even out-of-country--just don't count on them paying for your relocation.
Job Opportunities | CSC

Another is C4 Planning Solutions, they also have positions on military installations in SD (although far fewer than CSC):

These are the only two that I have personal experience with, but if you can get into SD working for the government (assuming you're already in the system) instead of contracting I would do that--usajobs.com like moved suggested.

You're less concerned with it having to be in the defense sector? So this is just a "how do I get a job in SD from out of state?" Why even bother with posting you have security clearance? Am I wrong in presuming some sort of government security clearance and not the security clearance you would need to get into the camera room of a Walmart?
