There are usually a few entrepreneurial types with trucks that get out and work the evening rush hour selling fire wood. When I see them, I usually stop and haggle a bit. I think eucalyptus is hard to get going but once it does it seems to burn a lot longer and hotter.

ER, have you found a new place to buy cords since your 2011 op?

Hey Shmoov. I'm still using the same couple that I found back in 2011. Julie Adams. Her and her husband are the kindest and most dependable people. I don't need an entire cord or even a half cord at a time.

They come out and deliver and even stack the wood for me. I haven't found a need to use anyone else as they are so dependable and friendly.

Me polluting the environment with my wood burning in my outdoor fireplace. Ha, ha.

So it's not good for you, for your children, or for the environment. If everyone in San Diego used wood-burning fireplaces, we'd be unable to breathe and it would soon be declared illegal.

But am I concerned about it? Truly, I couldn't care less. Burn away.

Why don't I care? Because I'm a major cynic, and I decided to never birth children, and thus I've already done way more for the planet than a majority of people ever will. The same is true for all people who remain childfree. Children = massive carbon footprint. This was not an entirely selfless act: I don't give a damn what happens to this increasingly polluted and overpopulated rock, and I don't want to care. Humanity is greedy, stupid and selfish, and it will never change, as the population explodes to 8 billion, 9 billion, 10 billion and beyond.

So I am thankful for the luxury of never having to give a damn about what anyone does, nor will I work to change it -- because there is no changing it, not now, not ever. I do not care.

So chop and burn everything up. Chop and burn like Saruman from Lord of the Rings. Burn and burn until the neighboorhood looks like Shanghai.
Thank you for that.

Hey, ER . . . is that a GAS VALVE KEY I spot on the right side?!! You are CHEATING!!!

... JK - I have a similar wood/gas setup in our main living room fireplace and I do the same thing .. . amazing how easy it is to start a good log fire with a touch of gas "accelerant" . . .

Unfortunately, have not needed to buy wood in the two years we've been here. I say unfortunately because when we first moved in, we had to sacrifice 4 beautiful, mature trees . . .two because they had invasive roots that were starting to affect our driveway, one lost to pests, and the last one SDG&E just came along and sliced-and-diced for us because it was leaning into the road and posed a hazard to the power lines. The only upside is that, after 2 years of seasoning, I'm set for firewood for a while

Ha, ha. Yep and I LOVE it. I've had houses before where I didn't have it and it took forever if you didn't use those Duraflame logs. Yep, it's cheating but as mentioned, it's super easy to get a good fire going just "cheating" with it for a few minutes which is all I usually have it on for. I have them on all 3 fireplaces in my house and really love them.
