There is a large Somali community in City Heights, and you'll find several Ethiopian restaurants along the El Cajon Boulevard corridor.

I think they're pretty much concentrated in City Heights, with some families living elsewhere in SD. I see lots of them when i go out.

They are concentrated in City Heights, Colina Del Sol section, between about Euclid and 54th south of University. There are a number of Ethiopian restaurants the best known-being Red Sea at University and Euclid near the Tower Bar.

Next time you take a cab ride, ask the driver. These two groups pretty much have a lock on the cab business in San Diego. Just like the Khmers control the donut business in SoCal.

But more seriously, you are correct, they are definitely national enemies, but I have never heard of any news reports that they have brought their conflicts with them here. These are probably the more peaceful people who left the Horn of Africa because they didn't want to live with the fighting.

I sometimes drive past this place called "African Assistance Alliance" near (City Heights/College Ave?) and I think they serve all Africans cultural groups -- Somali, Ethopians, Nigerian, and so on...

Plus, this is America and just like Khmers, Vietnamese, Hmong, Lao, and Thai in San Diego, they do get along fine, but might be enemies from a historical perspective in their native countries. Just my opinion.

Oh, I work with several Africans and from my observations, they seem to be most friendlier than their African-American (Blacks) counterparts from my own experience -- but that's another thread and generalization.
