Hey everyone! I know there are quite a few posts on here regarding this and I have done a lot of research as many of you are very helpful. I realized the best way to get info is be very specific and let you knowledgeable people get to work. So I currently live in AZ. My g/f and I are planning a move in less than a year. We have a trip planned in august to scope out some areas and get a good idea of rent/location/etc. I'm hoping to maybe get some feedback and maybe narrow down some areas of interest. She is going to attend SDSU next fall, so a place within driving/public transit distance without an hour of traffic congestion would be ideal. I am in the insurance field. I have been looking for jobs there but haven't applied yet so not too sure the location of the job. We are looking for 1br 1 ba for $1K-$1200. We don't go out every night but a location where a market, bars, restaurant are a walk would be preferred. Also, I play/ref ice hockey and have looked into the rinks in the SD area but not too sure if any of them are better than otheres. This would be at the bottom of the necessity list but is something you wonderful people could provide some insight. Thanks ahead of time!!!

I would go with La Mesa.short drive to SDSU and freeways 8&94 take you into the city. There's a ice center in Mira Mesa(exit the BLVD I believe via I15) that is pretty nice.

I would google the apts at Morena Trolley Station or Fenton Parkway Trolley or Rio Vista Trolley. Parking at SDSU is expensive, and traffic is bad.

La Mesa climate is not as hot as AZ, but coming from AZ you might appreciate an ocean climate. Morena Apts have this. Rio VIsta is good and Fenton is the hotter climate.

Also google MTS and check out the Green line that runs to SDSU. The further east the hotter the climate.

Your gf can buy a semester pass to ride the buses and trolleys for less than parking at SDSU. Many of the trolley stations offer free parking as well.

Welcome to San Diego. A nice change from AZ!

I've heard good things about the Kroc Center and the ice there. And if you ref, you damn well better let me get away with slashing, cross checking, and maybe even a little roughing. =)

I was going to sign up to play this season but I missed the open tryouts.

As for where to live, well, if she's going to State, may as well live there. Or if not, there are some apartments in Mission Valley where a lot of students live. Hell, there are plenty of students who live where I do downtown. And there's a Canadian guy moving out, so you should move in so that I have someone to talk pucks with.

Thanks for your help. I already looked into the public transportation and looks doable for sure. Started looking into the North Park area as rent is definitely doable and from what I have been reading on here, thats not a bad area. Any thoughts on the North Park, Hillcrest, University Heights, Adams North, Talmadge? I know thats quite the list but been seeing many 1bd right around our price range.

@ Tony, I'll definitely have to get in touch with ya. Don't know if I can compete with the Canadians, but I'll hold my own.

North Park is pretty cool. It's one of the areas I looked into before I decided, no, I want to live downtown.
