A lot of places here aren't equipped to handle this weather. My place didn't come with AC so I bought a portable unit that cools somewhat, but nothing like central or even a regular wall unit. Lots of folks in SD don't have AC.

This level of humidity for this long (and it appears it will continue) is not normal for us.

I think the humidity will clear and the Santa Ana winds will kick in to start off a horrendous fire season. Not that I am looking forward to it, I just know there is a lot of brush in the backcountry that hasn't been burned since the 07 fires.

Start clearing your brush and defensible space now.

OK, that is my paranoid conspiracy advice for today.

I remember it happening just about every summer I was there. Some years earlier than others. It always seems to come out of no where. I think that's why it hits people like a ton of bricks, you're just never prepared for it.

Take things easy SD and don't overdue anything outdoors. I hope the more normal SD weather returns sooner and not later.

Its just the usual monsoonal moisture that comes up from Mexico this time of year and brings thunderstorms to the mountains and desert. Yes its a bit unpleasant for a few days, but still you can't complain too much about the weather here. And if you thought it was hot the last few days, this was nothing compared to last September....

I remember it being that hot in 2011 before I left which was in September although that heat may have been at the end of August. Like I said, I think most are caught off guard every year because there's no warning of its coming and most people in SD don't follow the weather that closely because most of the time you don't need to.
