I've done San Diego to Maryland and it took me three days but I drove slow and did lots of tourist stops.

I've driven across the US & back multiple times. Took a train from SD to LA to New Orleans, then drove from New Orleans to Miami. My former m-i-l drove from Miami to SD a few years ago. It took her and her friend like 3.5 days as they drove through Texas and such.

It's a long drive through a lot of nothingness.

And you may well find yourself in places without even reasonably good radio. So if you want entertainment to stave off highway hypnosis, bring your own stuff with you.

I do San Diego to San Antonio every Winter on the 8 and 10 freeways which is half of what your trip will be. Driving straight through is about 19 hours but I usually do it in 2 days in 30 hours. Most of the way is flat, straight, and quite boring....but its a really easy drive day or night because of the flat terrain.

The freeway stretch between El Paso and San Antonio is 85 MPH max speed which is really nice.

As a kid I did the 10 coast to coast with my father who was a trucker, the worst stretch back in the 90's was Louisiana which was severely bumpy and in need of repair, plus you drive over miles and miles of swamps. The conditions of the road in Louisiana may be better these days.

Please bring me fireworks from New Mexico.

I will be driving from Georgia to SD next week so maybe I'll see you out on the road.

Yes, I imagine there are some interesting radio stations between here and there. I'm assuming XMSatellite will find me wherever.
Well it sounds like 3 days is possible so thanks for replies
No fireworks in Ca?

Yes, satellite radio is great. We used it all over Baja, Mexico.

Google maps shows 35 hours from Sarasota (for example) to San Diego. I don't think 8-10 hours per day will get you here in 3 days, because you'll need to stop at least for bathroom breaks. 4 days sounds more likely.

Weird! It is from Sarasota! Yes, I'm thinking 3 nights stop over, arrive on 4th day...it's actually my husband who is a much better driver, if it was me I'd never make it
