Well, a google search IS, in fact, exactly where I DID come up with some relevant information that I posted. Unlike pretty much everyone else making "suggestions" here so far.

Meanwhile, another quick Google search finds this interesting program in San Diego. I am unaware of similar in other cities, although there might be some.

SAFETY AMBASSADORS

One of the primary goals of the Safety Ambassadors is to enhance and complement the City of San Diego’s Police Department services. Using two-way radios and patrolling on foot and bicycles, Ambassadors act as an extra set of “eyes and ears” for law enforcement and property owners, and can respond to Clean & Safe service calls in a matter of minutes.

The Safety Ambassadors also:

Deter aggressive panhandling and other nuisance crimes on behalf of property owners
Work with service providers to provide social service outreach referrals
Assist with directions and information
Maintain open communications with police to report on-going issues
Add a presence in Downtown to prevent vandalism and other undesirable behavior
Conduct routine patrol of all Downtown parks (Children’s Park, Gaslamp Square Park, Horton Square, and Linear Park)
Provide emergency services
Clean & Safe, Downtown Partnership's Program | Downtown San Diego Partnership
Add this to the reporting I linked in post #127 about policing policies and history in the city, and we begin to see an interesting picture.

Or, we could focus on profiling blacks. Even in total absence of any supporting studies showing such action productive.

Councilman Todd Gloria said the figures come with a backdrop of low pay for officers, when compared to nearby jurisdictions, and a low officers-to- residents ratio for a large city.

“We know that our officers are making the very most with the very least,” Gloria said. “These numbers are particularly praiseworthy.”

In spite of a couple posters not being interested in actual reporting on the issue.
