I was curious to know how most people socialize in SD.

Example :

I just became friends with this girl who has invited me to the Gaslamp on a Saturday night and Fashion Valley at 6pm tonight for an indie film. She is cool and I'd like to hang out with her....no dating at all since she is married. However the thought of trying to find parking in the Gaslamp area on a saturday and having to drive myself home ( Sober ) was entirely unappealing to me.

Today she was somewhat upset that I didn't accept the fashion valley invitation. Being in North County I assume I would have to go from i5 South to 8 East to 163 North....YIKES. Just the thought of having to catch all those exits stresses me out not to mention having to leave early to miss traffic and forcing food down my throat before I go knowing I will miss dinner.

Maybe I am getting older and therefore more lame but none of it sounded like a good time to me. Not to mention I need to be somewhere early tomorrow morning.

She lives in IB so maybe it is easier for her to get around ?

How many of you refuse to socialize out of your immediate area .....just curious ?

I only socialize out of my area as I have little in common with most people living downtown and especially avoid the Gaslamp...might be a different story if I were in my 20's or early 30's and a drifter....I have no problem driving 10-20-30 minutes to socialize, which also limits me to 2 beers or 2 glasses of wine. Variety is a good thing.

Uber. Lyft. End of story. No excuse these days.
You should never drink and drive.
You don't need to find parking.
You don't have to potentially pay for parking.
You pay for the ride but you save on gas.
In city like SD that has pockets of places spread out you can expand your circle rather easily.

Plus You can sign up a get a couple free rides.

Good Points but Im not sure Uber sounds appealing to me being up in North County. I assume it would cost me roughly $25/30 each way to drink a few beers...not really appealing to me.

Aside from the fact that trying to get from North County to Fashion Valley during rush hour would suck, I wouldn't have any issue with driving halfway across the county to meet someone for a movie.

Probably spend 18-20 bucks. You would spend $5-$8 each way driving. Plus no worries about having an extra beer. And its not really a large price if you use it occasionally.

$5-8 each way driving? How do you figure?

I guess it depends on what you drive. I get 32mpg so it currently costs me about $2.25 to drive from home (North Park) to work (Escondido).

It does depend on what you drive, where you drive and how your drive.

Add in the incidentals over time (maintenance, oil changes) and parking (if you have to). Less risk too or shift risk to someone else as 30-40% motorists are uninsured

I am not sure of the exact context, but public transportation is not always an option especially with how spread out the County is.
