Its everything but dumb, it brings people closer to each other.
How do you meet other people if you are glued to your phone chasing pixels on the screen?

The reason these "disorders" (which are really no disorders at all, but merely an extreme form of selfishness and desire for the world to revolve around you) exist is precisely because of too much screen time and too little time spent with people. Once you are out in the real world, you understand that the world is not out to hurt you, so these disorders vanish on their own pretty soon.

Which is usually because you have to interact with people when you are young. Not on a PC where everyone is invisible. The internet has spawned a whole generation of people that can barely communicate face to face.

Uh, no. Keep living in your bubble. These disorders are debilitating to some. Maybe do some research before you spout off about something you know nothing about.

By dropping lures and tracking the same rare pokemon.

I went hiking last Friday up Mt. San Jacinto with 2 people I met via Ingress, the predecessor to PokeMon Go. It was an all day event that started early. In fact, I camped up there the night before. We captured 'portals' on the summit and along the trail. The other two had BGAN devices, which enables satellite access to the Internet... which is often needed in off-grid areas.

Don't know about PokeMon Go, but Ingress is very social.

So when I first saw mention of Ingress here, I thought, "Ingres - a database? What does that have to do with ... ?"

For us, Pokemon Go (if we played it) is geocaching lite.
