If you have an account, the cheaper plans won't show up unless you log out. I looked it up on my phone, and this is what there is:

Cox Internet Starter 10
$19.99/month for 12 months.
Regular price $42.99/mo

Cox Internet Essential 30
$29.99/month for 12 months.
Regular price $63.99/month

I had a friend who had the $19.99 plan, and I couldn't tell the difference in the speed.
Thanks just checked.

* These offers are for NEW customers. That's why they don't show up when you have an account. After the first 12 months prices go to standard rates.

I guess technically you could drop all service with COX for awhile then restart but they would probably catch on.

The way cable companies work is they get you hooked initially on a cheap package then you get locked into it and you haggle with them every so often to find a fair "market" price. I've never had anything different from a cable company.

I’ve been locked in with At&t for years, I just threaten to leave when they raise my rates, I haven’t had to do this though in quite some time, I think they gave up. At our cabin where there’s only one game in town, my wife and I switch service yearly between us, works like a charm.

I'm paying $87.49/mo for Cox Ultimate Internet Service (300mbps). I supply my own modem.

I was previously paying $84.99 for the first 12 months I signed up. That recently ended and they tried raising it to over $104.99/mo. After a phone call I got it renewed for $2.50 more than I was previously paying. I can live with a 3% annual increase, but not 23% for literally the same exact service.

Do you return the hardware each time you swap with wife, Or just the name on service ?

Are you getting 300mbps? I just checked my service and I'm getting about 210mbps.

Spectrum is coming over on Friday with the latest and greatest modem. They tell me I should be able to get 400mbps.

cruitr, I have several smart devices hooked up, so I'm not sure if those act as a constant draw on bandwidth or not, but I think when I run speedtest's from my AppleTV on the 5Ghz I get an average of about 250-260, which is good enough for me.

The lower plan speed is 100mbps and I'm afraid if I dropped down to that I'd definitely notice the difference in speed.

I have Cox preferred with HBO. I just did a speed test it was 115 mb DL. I pay $85 a month now. I live alone, and think this is overkill. I don't even want HBO anymore. The thing is, every time I call them about downgrading, the options they give me aren't very persuasive and I always end up just sticking with preferred/HBO.

The Spectrum tech just left the house. I now get about 450 down and 25 up.

My Linksys router says I have 26 wireless devices attached. I guess it's counting all my pc's, cell phones, roku's, printers, dvr's etc. Looks like some are counted twice because they are dual-band.

That's awesome cruitr. I just checked and unfortunately I don't have Spectrum in my area (Otay Ranch).

I previously lived in a building in downtown SD that had Webpass. This was about 4 years ago and at the time I was paying $50/mo for (if I remember correctly) 500+ down speeds. You plugged your cat5 right into the wall because the whole building was wired so no modem, just a router for wi-fi. I was bummed leaving that internet setup.

IIRC, my mom has an AT&T DSL that's like 6Mb/s (she lives way out on the loop, a good 30,000 feet or so) for $19.99 per month.

I remember being ecstatic when I could get a 128 kb/s IDSL circuit out there circa 2001-2002.
