What is the most minimal internet-only service package in terms of speed (mbps) and monthly cost and provider?

Have you thought of just using your phone as a modem?

I think the old dial-up modem method is too minimalistic, slow (56 KiloByte ps) for basic downloads and video streams?
Though you may like the sounds it makes, you may.

Cell phone

I have ATT and routinely use my laptop through it no problem. I've even used it out on Mt Laguna. I have a Droid 7 right now.

Do you mean using your cell mobile phone as a hot spot ?
I'm more asking about Cox and other providers (ATT) etc:

Cox will give you a special for 12 months. You have a choice of the Cox Internet Starter 10 for $19.99 for 12 months, and the Cox Internet Essential 30 for $29.99 for 12 months.

I don't know how much they go up to after 12 months, because it doesn't say, but I have essential, and it's around $52/month.

On my first call, Cox quoted as $64 per month for the Essential 30 MBPS which I'm test driving now. (previous was $85pm for Preferred 100 MBPS). I'm guessing the $30 was a promo twelve-month contract rate, which I've asked for now and then in past, and will ask again for the Essential 30 if it works out.

We have ATT and could easily dump my data plan and just use my cell phone as a modem if I wanted to.

But ya, I've heard of cable cutters that just use a usb dongle to run off their machine or a minimal data plan.

Here is an independent review of speeds and pricing https://www.reviews.org/internet-ser...ternet-review/

I don't know if it's the best price out there, but I'm paying $37 for Cox's "Starter Internet 10 Mbps" 1TB (1024 GB) Monthly Data Plan.

3 years ago, 2015, it was $30 which I guess was the introductory price. In 2016, it rose to $33, followed by $35 in 2017, and now in 2018 it's $37. A 23% price increase in 3 years, so if you have something better, let us know.

Ask for the loyalty department, and they might knock $5-$10 off the bill. I just dumped cable, and only have internet. When I move, I'll get a 12 month discount on Essential, which is what have now.
