Poway. There are a few sketchy streets, but it's mostly upscale, safe, and with good access to natural beauty.

I love Poway, I grew up there, but I wouldn’t want to live there if I was single, without kids, and in my 20’s, like the OP is.

I would want to (and do) live in a beachy neighborhood, but those are expensive. Where would you suggest?

I don’t quite get your question? Are you asking for other people since you already live in a “beachy neighborhood”? What is said budget, and what’s your definition of “beachy neighborhood”? Is it at the beach, or off the beach like Bay Park?

I’m more than willing to help, but I was under the impression we were trying to help the OP find a neighborhood different than Ocean Beach, or Bay Park? One with a less city, and more nature around it.

I would suggest you start your own thread. This one is for me, looking for places NOT at the beach.

Lake Murray, mission trails, and Cowles Mountain will give you the nature setting I think you’re after, especially for walking your dog, sorry I can’t comment on the bee situation out there though. I know I don’t feel like I’m in San Diego anymore when I’m at one of those places. I just looked, and while it’s 78 here at the beach, it’s 89 there. It’s not always 100+ in the summer like people make it out to be in east county.

I’m glad you decided to give San Diego another chance, and will stick around. I’m sure as you explore the county a bit more you’ll find an area you really like. I’ve been here most my life and didn’t realize many places existed. Well I did know, I just never went because i never really left the beach, Charger games were about as far inland as I would venture. Good luck, and have fun searching.
Thanks. La Mesa is actually near the top of the list. I think it could be a really great fit for me, and easy access to the places I need to go regularly.

Sort of has a small town feel that I like too!!

I was responding to someone who said that a young single person would be better off reconsidering that decision.
